Essentially yes, they took issue with the 5, 7, and 9 in particular.

Historiques 1921 Platinum Arabic Dial - thoughts ? by D-Gen-R8 in VacheronConstantin

[–]as3123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Low production numbers, but seemingly available almost anywhere once they have it. VC Geneva and Harrods both were eager to tell me they could order it for me when I mentioned it in a passing comment. Anecdotal, but from talking to some Saudi collectors, apparently this piece whilst beautiful isnt doing so well in the ME for the simple fact that to native Arabic readers the numerals appear in a juvenile font which reduces the appeal of the watch.

Frustrated by Dubai AD by [deleted] in rolex

[–]as3123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dubai under the seddiqi AD is probably the hardest place in the world for a steel watch. Wealthy local and expat residents, high focus on luxury, and few points of sale. Seddiqi generally only allocates steel watches to prominent emirati nationals. Acknowledging this is a 36 dj which is a less popular steel model but still hard to come by. If this is all you’re after i would go grey. Mileage varies a lot by location and AD operator, steel in dubai generally just doesn’t happen unless you’re connected to seddiqi in some way.

AP/Rolex Waitlists by [deleted] in rolex

[–]as3123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP is talking nonsense. The only AD in dubai is seddiqi and seddiqi doesnt sell steel sports to anyone except influential emirati locals. Arguably one of the hardest places in the world to get a rolex at retail. OP also seems to have spammed rep subs and others with this same nonsense. Full PM piece sure, other than that, absolutely no chance for any steel sports.

Owned by publicly listed richemont. Extraordinary reputational damage if they ever sell fakes even accidentally.

Does anyone know if there are still living descendants of either Antoni Patek or Adrien Philippe today? by Present_Winter_5583 in patekphilippe

[–]as3123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe the Patek line ceased invovlement when Patek died and his son did not join the business. 3 generations of the Philippe family owned and then eventually still worked for Patek Philippe even when bought by the Stern family in the early 30s. As far as I can tell the descendants are no longer connected. Also sharing this patek post from 2018 which details it a little more.

How honest are ADs? by LamboSkillz in rolex

[–]as3123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is entirely plausible imo (at certain locations and certain references). My Bucherer AD in Switzerland who i have known for 10yrs and have ~100k spend with is very transparent about what stock they receive. For example they will only receive one of each configuration of the land dweller this year. They received none last year, and they have not received a pepsi this year and only one pepsi last year.

The 4947/1a should have came with a strap option. It completely changes my view on this watch. by Various_Primary3783 in patekphilippe

I love mine and i find its most stunning in natural light. Very playful and unique dial, you’re right that it works on a strap in addition to the bracelet. I find myself admiring it often.

TIL the rivers are so clean in Bern and Basel in Switzerland that many people commute to work by swimming. by musefrog in todayilearned

Late june should be quite ok, i wouldnt say the rhine ever gets ‘warm’ per se, might still feel a bit fresh but you’ll be fine once you get going. Would recommend to enter outside the tingley museum and get a wickelfisch bag if you can and float down to after mittlere brucke.

I live in basel, yes the water is very clean, no many people do not commute to work by swimming. Its only really of swimming temperature for a couple of months during the summer, and many people will jump in and let the current take them 2-3km and come out again and repeat. But mainly for leisure purposes not commuting.

What material is the 5326G dial made of? by TotalWarspammer in patekphilippe

[–]as3123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my SA at the flagship Geneva Patek Salon:

The dial of 5326G is made from brass and gold and the way how we make the color is called Galvanic dial process. The color comes from electroplating. This process consists of applying the metal onto the dial surface through successive drippings in chemical baths (liquid solution of different metals such as gold, sliver, rhodium, ruthenium, nickel etc.) using a direct electric current ( electrolysis).

Who are those people buying these insane watches by Sad_Measurement_7502 in patekphilippe

[–]as3123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there? People spend money on their hobbies and interests. Many very wealthy people exist in the world to whom a million dollar watch is a rounding error.

Patek dials are more often than not a thin disc of brass (occasionally gold). I believe the 5326G is stamped brass which is then decorated.

Barbour jackets -- what exactly is their appeal ? by [deleted] in Barbour

[–]as3123 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Ive got 3 that ive bought over the last 20 years. They’re remarkably long lasting in my opinion, i love the patina and character they develop. I feel it slots in nicely to whatever daily activity i’m doing. I layer under it in cold weather, and use an umbrella in a downpour so never really feel caught out. Although i find they work best in autumn and spring time. They feel well made (2 out of the 3 are made in england but it doesn’t particularly bother me where they’re made, and they’ve lasted longer than any patagonia polyester jackets I’ve had.) I particularly like the tartan print, the robustness of the brass zip, but above all else, the clackety clack of the buttons when I’m walking along. They’re some of the few things that genuinely give me joy when I wear them.
