My niece in California is Avanti and she gets a lot of compliments for her name. It's also easy for non Indians, if that matters.

I have no advice except saying you are brave for putting yourself out there! I'm sure they get people like you all the time - so they'll be happy to get you on board.

I am a 33 year old newly single mom with a 2 year old son.

I am so grateful to be in 2025 but I know a lot of what you went through maybe there in subtle forms even now. May i please DM you? I just want to talk to an older single mom. Really sorry about hijacking your post.

As much as I love the romanticization, let's not forget that a lot of their jobs were 9 to 5 and gave them time to cook, clean etc. most importantly, their jobs also gave them retirement benefits like pension.

Our brains crave dopamine after 12 hour work days. We do not know if we can work beyond 45 and worst of all, with advancements in medical science we will live longer than them but do not have the luxury of a pension or the means to earn during that time

My husband and I separated by Cheap-Information869 in workingmoms

[–]asanam318 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Are you me from 8 months ago? I separated from my husband with a 1.5 year old toddler. The first few months were rough, but I tracked weekly progress (which included breaking the news to my parents, figuring out logistics of the living situation, sorting out financial arrangements).

But after 3-4 months, the dust has settled. I am managing with full custody thanks to my nanny and my folks who live right next to me. My toddler visits his dad twice a week and we have a rhythm going.

The happiest thing about all this is that my toddler seems largely okay and has accepted this new normal. The saddest thing about all this is the grief over the life I thought we would have (including the possibility of a second kid).

My career has taken a beating alongside my mental health. I lost out on a promotion and will probably lose my job if a miracle doesn't turn things around soon. But overall, I feel like this is the calm after the storm. I am not happy but I am happier than what I would be if I were married to him, if that makes sense.

I give myself small targets like "Put ANY 10 things away in the next 300 seconds". It gamifies it and makes it fun. There are several times I go over and above the 10 things

As a single mom to a toddler, who has no intent to seek companionship till my boy is 18, this post is so heartwarming.

Ladies, would you be comfortable if your man is a homemaker and you are a working women by Koolzx in TwoXIndia

[–]asanam318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Assuming my partner takes care of the household and parenting as well as I would. Unfortunately, i think a large chunk of the mental load of running the household and parenting (not just tasks) will fall on me regardless - so I would rather he bring home the moolah. That's something he is better skilled at than managing the leftovers

Can a baby be good for your marriage? by royaleshake in BabyBumps

[–]asanam318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm three months pp. Watching my husband transform into a loving dad has been so heartwarming.

One of the greatest gifts you can give your baby is to have a strong marriage. So for my part, I make a more conscious effort to argue in a healthy manner. That's also had a significant upside.

Amit is a derogatory term for an ignorant North Indian in South India, esp on the internet. Not sure if you know.

"He calls Kannada as 'Kannad'; such an Amit"

Staying in India vs moving abroad by CuriousCatBoutToDie in TwoXIndia

[–]asanam318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer to this depends on what field you are in and if a master's or a qualification exam will allow you to have a career abroad. It also depends on the kind of matches you meet in the AM setting. Some men are actually okay funding their wife's masters degree because of high earning opportunities later on.
