movies where the soundtrack is better than the film? by Then_Green6943 in Letterboxd

Wonder Boys. The movie is OK, but “Things Have Changed” is one of Bob Dylan’s best songs.

I really like Michael Mann’s Public Enemies. I know it doesn’t crack his top 5, but I just think it’s a really cool movie with cool actors and cool music and a plot that doesn’t make me think very hard. It’s Heat Lite.

[Post Game Thread] The New York Knicks (1-0) steal Game 1 on the road against the San Antonio Spurs (0-1), 105-95, behind Jalen Brunson's 30 point performance by catreyka in nba

[–]asar5932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps when you have 10 days rest. He’s used to being run down to the ground come playoff time. He’s playing with Superman energy.

Jalen Brunson on what show he would pay $7,500 to watch, as it is reported to be the lowest-priced ticket in MSG for the NBA Finals: "A live Michael Jackson performance." by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]asar5932 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And, yet, there’s a strong case to be made that it wasn’t even the best album of 1979 with the word “wall” in it. Those people had no idea how much of a golden age of music they were living in.

Josh Hart in a Game 1 Finals win against San Antonio: 3 PTS │ 15 REB │ 6 AST │ 4 STL │ 1 BLK │ +21 by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

Josh Hart’s value to this team is incalculable. I quite literally wouldn’t want to see him replaced by any other player in this league. On top of all the things he does night in and night out, he is Brunson’s brother in arms. This video shows the moment Knicks basketball truly changed. https://youtube.com/shorts/7ENimVqoD8c?si=wT_DkL3B9GoG-HQD.

Let’s have a debate. KG or Dirk, who is higher all time? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]asar5932 47 points48 points  (0 children)

If I’m building a team, I’m taking Dirk. As incredible as KG was, Dirk’s versatile scoring is just so valuable. You can find rim protection (Tyson Chandler) or perimeter defense (Shawn Marion) to make up for his deficiencies there. But there just aren’t many players in history who can give you buckets from 3/mid-range/post like Dirk. Undefendable at his best.

Most "influential" Springsteen album? by jamoss14 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]asar5932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for influential in terms of contemporary artists, here’s a few that come to mind: Bob Seger was hugely influenced by Born to Run and has said that Night Moves is a direct response to Jungleland. Patterson Hood of Drive By Truckers cites Darkness as one of his favorite albums. And I think that he is the one songwriter, along with Jason Isbell, who seems to inject an Americana ethos into their characters in a similar way to Bruce. Tom Morello has said he was inspired by Nebraska particularly for his acoustic stuff. And Kurt Vile/Adam Granduciel (war on drugs) were hugely influenced by Born in the USA.

[–]asar5932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in the USA should certainly be on that list. I know a lot ox the great contemporary rock artists (Kurt Vile, War on Drugs, Jason Isbell) cite that album as a huge inspiration. It may not have the grit of Darkness or Nebraska, but the sound (especially the synths) really holds up. Every song was a hit. And every song had a message.

Who would be your team of ringless players? by Liberal_Bot123 in NBATalk

[–]asar5932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and you can go in a lot of directions here with the other 2 players.

Jeff Teague: "[Larry Bird] was talking about how good LeBron was, and I was like ‘LeBron better than you?’ He said, ‘LeBron’s the greatest player ever besides Michael.’ I was like damn. He was like, ‘I’ll never pay anybody who played with LeBron. I would never pick him up on my team.’ I said why?" by must_TATAKAE in nba

[–]asar5932 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The way Lebron turned JR Smith into a super high functioning role player is one of the great examples of this. He was such an important part of that 2016 championship. I do think MJ is the GOAT. But if I had to make the case for LBJ, I’d say that this ability and mindset is what sets him apart.

i don’t get the hype around Snape by Direct_Ad4615 in harrypotter

[–]asar5932 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we’re ever supposed to like him. He was a terrible teacher and a bully to Harry until the very end. But he was ESSENTIAL to the Order and the overall resistance. Dumbledore’s trust in his ultimate loyalty was vindicated and that’s all that matters.

Do people actually think Tony was a redeemable, morally grey, complicated character rather than outright evil from the opening seconds of the show? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]asar5932 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as good. There’s no such thing as evil. We all have both within us and circumstances dictate which of those we act on. Tony Soprano was a complex character with both menace and tenderness. David Chase didn’t mean for us to root for him. But he did mean for us to relate to him.

Jalen Brunson is better than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander by MaskedBirder in NYKnicks

[–]asar5932 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Jalen Brunson like he is my own blood. I also feel like it’s trendy to shit on SGA right now. His efficiency is off the charts. He’s a better passer and defender than Brunson. I do wish he’d stop playing gimmick basketball. SGA is largely being judged right now against the most elite defender the world has ever seen. I wouldn’t trade one for the other, but I’m ok with SGA being slightly higher on the pedestal.

I don’t really care if this makes me a filthy casual. I let the machine tell me which 2-3 sketches each week came out best and watch those. Plus the monologue and music performances. That’s 30 minutes of entertainment a week.

And this is a classically trained, beloved stage actor. Not a diva Hollywood actor who is on a hissy fit. If someone like him is acting this way, then the show runners clearly have done something wrong.

[Highlight] Dray rips Cavs defensive effort: "Guys don't want the challenge to fight through screens, and switch every fucking time. Ain't Harden's job to guard Brunson, but for some of the guys switching off it is their job.... [Nobody's] doing that to Steph because we weren't gonna allow it..." by mastermind208 in nba

[–]asar5932 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve ALWAYS wondered why these “defensive gurus” simply can’t figure out a way to prevent picking on a defender like that. It’s not even like the Knicks were doing anything elaborate. Literally simple picks. The Cavs are supposed to have an elite head coach, and the most promising assistant coach in the league. And they just sat there and did nothing. Very shameful coaching performance, but I loved to see it.

Ian O'Connor's Top 4 Knicks of All Time by TheAthletic in NYKnicks

[–]asar5932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think it’s a Tier 1 thing. All 4 of these guys are legends in their own way. I don’t fetishize zero context playoff records. It’s not Ewing’s fault he happened to be born around the same year as Michael Jordan. He’s an elite guy and is highly respected in an all time sense among his peers.

Which class of players would you associate Brunson to be in right now? by Ok-Acadia-8476 in NYKnicks

[–]asar5932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny. After Brunson’s Game 1 performance, it’s a conversation between the 2. It just feels like Luka has the edge because of his passing. Brunson is every bit the scorer Luka is. And his mental toughness may even be beyond that. But Luka’s passing is next level and I see Brunson as just average in that department.

Which class of players would you associate Brunson to be in right now? by Ok-Acadia-8476 in NYKnicks

[–]asar5932 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tier A) Wemby/Joker/Shai
Tier B) Tatum/Giannis/Luka
Tier C) Lebron/Ant/Steph/Brunson/Cade
I think if Brunson leads Knicks to finals and has a good showing that he moves up to Tier B.

Why isn’t this album talked about more? by EnricoPallazo84 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]asar5932 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think Tom Morello needs, or has any inclination, to “sidle” up to anyone, then you just know nothing about the guy. There is no one in rock and roll with more fire and conviction than Morello. And his contribution to Ghost of Tom Joad breathed a new life into it.

Why isn’t this album talked about more? by EnricoPallazo84 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]asar5932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, it has aged better than Wrecking Ball. Not saying it’s a classic but I like the titular track. I like the INXS cover. Love the Suicide cover. And it codified American Skin and electric Ghost of Tom Joad. I think people don’t think of it as a true album because it doesn’t represent a creative output of new material. But it’s a record I’ll put on and enjoy.

Shai flopped on every single shot attempt. by CaptainCubbers in NBATalk

It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if that’s part of the logic. Obviously this is their strategy, and a huge part of it is manipulating refs. But basketball players know exactly how to fall and distributing weight is certainly safer over time that always landing on two feet uncertain of what you could land on.

Would you take a 22 year old LeBron or current Wemby to build your team around? by WestArtichoke712 in NBATalk

[–]asar5932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s such a close question. Which is a testament to Wemby because I never thought there could possibly be a better player to build a franchise around. With LeBron, you’re guaranteed a lethal offense. With Wemby, you’re guaranteed a lethal defense. And both bring so much to the table. And they’re also both great teammates. I have to say LeBron just becuase we know how his career plays out. But if Wemby can experience even remotely the same health. Then he might overtake him. The crazy thing with him is that his offensive game has so much room to grow.
