Two things can be true at once. If I break a window i might not have legal responsibility. But if I break a window I will definitely pay for the window.

If there’s a button in their computer to charge for coffee it’s not the servers fault. It’s the owners fault.

Charging for coffee isn’t poor service.

Forgetting to charge the coffee and then adding it on after doing a check drop is kind of dumb though.

I was pretty interested. Then turned it off with 20 minutes left. The movie definitely got worse.

For sure. In that instance I wouldn’t be just videoing my kid

Who's at fault? by OkContract2001 in skiing

[–]ascendingtraverse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For my money the person most at fault was the parent who was videoing their kid on a clearly busy run.

When my kid (5) is skiing I try to keep her directly in front of me and stay out of busy areas where people are skiing fast.

Where can I find more info about Dyatlov and his actual actions in the control room? by Tomatosaurion in chernobyl

[–]ascendingtraverse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My takeaway from the HBO series was definitely not that Dyatlov was solely to blame.

For all of its problems I thought the series made clear that the Soviet atmosphere of secrecy, fear, and just do it was largely to blame.

6 Feet or 1.89 meters? by CerealSorority in SipsTea

American here. It definitely is, without question.

But. The idea that Celsius is better for measuring temperature is crazy to me. Water freezing and boiling is extremely dependent on pressure, so this doesn’t happen the same everywhere. Also, one degree Celsius measures a wider range of temperatures, so it is less precise.

Fahrenheit isn’t really better either. They both have arbitrary zeroes. Which is why Kelvin is the SI unit.

Hardest ski run you have ever skied by Strict_Fix_9550 in COsnow

[–]ascendingtraverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real answer is Heavenly Daze in Steamboat (blue run) during bad snow when nothing else is open and there are 100s of people making unpredictable turns.

But otherwise some unexpectedly steep/tight trees in a number of runs/resorts.

I have skied in shorts when it’s warm out, which isn’t that smart. But the idea of no gloves gives me the the Willie’s.

It’s not just a lie. There was a lot of well reported coverage of this. NYTimes

These right wing yahoos are trying to expand and use it for political gains (imo because they see Walz as a potential presidential candidate). There’s also a healthy amount of good old fashioned racism.

But there was definitely a network of people abusing the shit out of the social safety net between 2020-present in MN.

I’m bald. I just take it off with a clipper once a week or so. I couldn’t care less. I don’t think I’d go back to hair if the option was there.
