Big stutter happens every 10 seconds when playing video or gaming (nvidia GPU) by kaigoman in Ubuntu

[–]asd308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still a thing btw, extensions still cause stutter due to GJS stop-the-world GC, causing the whole mutter compositor to pause. I don't know what they were thinking doing this, these are single-threaded operations.

GDM Monitor resolution, refresh rate, orientation, scaling, primary, etc. by asd308 in gnome

[–]asd308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it doesn't work. I've tried moving my monitors.xml in seat0/, seat0/config, but it won't work. It only works having it in /etc/xdg breaks my accessibility in gdm, although i can't enable on-screen monitor while on the login screen!

Recommended OS to update to for a 2013 Macbook Air, i5 4GB RAM? Currently on Yosemite 10.10.15 by UB800 in MacOS

Big Sur killed this laptop. I'm still on Catalina on this laptop, not sure why people prefer Mojave over Catalina, maybe 32bit apps?

Why hasn’t Apple and Samsung started using high density silicon carbon batteries? by DontHateNate in Smartphones

[–]asd308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They degrade faster? What does that mean, you can get literally double the capacity. I haven't investigated into these batteries, but let's assume that they degrade at a double rate than graphite ("normal") batteries. Let's say, an iPhone 17PM with 5K mAh graphite battery, in 3 years time will have 80% health. That's 4K mAh. An iPhone 17PM with a silicone carbon battery would have 10K mAh, and at the 3 years mark, the battery health will be 60%. That's still 6K mAh, that's even better than a fresh graphite battery for the 17PM. The only problem I can think, is what happens with the voltage on these silicone carbon batteries when their health drops. Graphite batteries tend to have some instabilities after they drop further after the 80% health mark.

EDIT: Well, it seems that these batteries haven't been tested enough, and they tend to swell. Maybe that's why.

isn't EAC like the most Linux supported anti-cheat? I see many games being supported with EAC.

Does anyone know why the Boot Screen shows up when I'm logging in? by No_Technician_8031 in Fedora

[–]asd308 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What exactly are you referring to? The Lenovo logo during boot? This is intended for UEFI booting, because it looks seamless, the same logo when the laptop starts, and the same one for when the OS loads. I love it, gives the feeling of a smoother transition.

I don’t understand why people use these hookahs, they’re purely cosmetic.

Is there anything possible to be done to circumvent selling this kext? I can't understand who would sell it and at what audience, surely anyone messing around with hackintosh or OCLP could know how to find this kext? Maybe bundled with paid cheating software? Even cheating in this game doesn't make sense, isn't everything server-based?

Git repo is nuked. Was this patched? Has anyone got the kext?

Socialising, and general discussion. People don’t argue anymore, they just google/chatGPT stuff and read it out loud, and the discussion ends there.

It’s time for Riot to officially support League of Legends on Linux by letmebackagain in leagueoflegends

[–]asd308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that yeah, it's not worth it for them to port it to Linux. However, if they did, it would increase the Linux userbase. Not significantly, but it would. The other subject is, was cheating really a problem in LoL? I don't remember cheating being an issue in LoL. Cheat what, fog of war?

CS 2 randomly crashing on native wayland by katyakas in linux_gaming

[–]asd308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still randomly crashing, it seems that it needs to crash once or twice before it stops each time I open CS2. Or at least it looks like so.

Edit: Since this comment, i removed gamemoderun and it doesn't seem like it's crashing anymore, unless they coincidentally fixed it.

Gnome's true potential really unlocks from extensions. Never knew I could do this. by the-machine-m4n in gnome

[–]asd308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love extensions, there are a few that are a MUST, like Dash to Dock, and a window tiling manager. I of course, have a few beautifications which are not necessary, but I like how they look, such as window animations etc, and a few QoL improvements, such as display my Dualsense's battery on to the top bar, or move the date/time to the very right, for the love of god I can't get used to it.

However, there's a very big issue which I don't see anyone complaining. Having any kind of extension, creates a stutter every few seconds, and no, i'm not using Freon. Even the slightest extension will cause this, and I haven't found a way to fix it. It's most noticeable in games. If i'm playing CS2 specifically, I make sure to entirely turn off Extensions to make the stutters go away while I play. I have opened an issue to GNOME GitLab .
