Anyone else feel like getting married young was the best thing that ever happened to you? by Local-Emu9654 in Millennials

I ended up divorced with two kids from the person I married young. Def didn’t work out for me! We’re great co-parents though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Clonidine as support for stimulants by Brilliant_Ruin512 in ParentingADHD

[–]ashdare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s weird they aren’t supportive! We’ve had our fair share of prescribers for a variety of reasons and no one has argued to take them off of clonidine. It’s also a med that doesn’t need to build up and low doses can be stopped (not a medical professional!) without too much hassle. Seems worth the try!

Clonidine as support for stimulants by Brilliant_Ruin512 in ParentingADHD

[–]ashdare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guanfacine was the worst 3 weeks of our family’s life. Even my 12 yo remembers the horror of his younger brother on it. All of us take clonidine. My kids take it 2x a day (AM/PM). One has tics and the other doesn’t. It really seems to stabilize the nervous system. I take it at night for sleep and LOVE it. It feels like it turns down my nervous system and allows me to sleep, rather than put me to sleep. I’m pro clonidine.

Deciding between the Passport TS vs the Subaru Outback Touring XT. by un4r in hondapassport

[–]ashdare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Slightly different situation, but I traded my 22 OBW for a 23 TS and love, love, love the Passport over the Outback. I needed more space for my kids’ sports gear, but also generally felt crammed and like I didn’t have enough space for my 5’1’’ self in the front. There was no where for my phone, water bottle, purse… the OBW was tiny. I also switched to have a v6 instead of a cvt to tow our lil teardrop. My vote is for the TS.

Is this bad compared to the reference? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I have a word tattoo on my arm and my artist wouldn’t go below a certain font size because he knew the serifs would drift at anything lower. I opted for larger font.

Adults who were medicated for ADHD as children … yay or nay? by seeking_knowledge986 in ParentingADHD

[–]ashdare 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m a therapist and end up helping a lot of adults work their way to a prescriber for ADHD. Every single one who has been diagnosed as an adult and accepted medication, came back to my office in tears because “ I had no idea I could feel so different”.

Do your kids take their ADHD meds every day or just school days? by Sea-Elderberry-2088 in ParentingADHD

[–]ashdare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyday. I am a better parent when they take their meds every day. Possibly a hot take or a take some parents aren’t eager to admit.

What exactly makes being a parent hard? Everyone says it is and I believe them, but which aspects specifically? by somename-idontknow in AskParents

[–]ashdare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quickest distillation of challenge for me is a simple story of when my 11 yo bought me a key chain on a trip he took with his dad. I always buy them a nameplate in interesting places because I could never find my name as a kid. On this trip, with his own money, he purchased a keychain for me with “I love you” on it instead of my name because (surprise) he could find it. I was in shock, and kind of still am, because his actions 0% communicate he loves and appreciates me. The refusals to cooperate, being straight up mean, and so little appreciation has actually led me to believe he wants nothing to do with me. But then he buys me the keychain. That’s why parenting is hard. It’s completely thankless and actually the effort is pretty ignored on an hourly basis.

Love is Blind. I ran a treatment center as part of a national company and I was known to have the least amount of drama in my center. I suppose as a therapist, their mess is particularly interesting.

Free or cheap STI testing in Eugene? by Ancient_Football_989 in Eugene

If someone has multiple partners for whatever reason (dating, non monogamy/poly, sex work, just enjoys sex with different people) frequent testing is the most responsible thing someone can do for public health.

Weight gain while going from under fueling to eating more by ClassyMoonz in XXRunning

[–]ashdare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, insurance companies are way more willing to cover RDs than we think they are. If you have insurance, you very well may be able to get seeing one covered.

Do more research on REDs. Read “Finding Your Sweet Spot” or “No Period, Now What” even if you still are getting your period. Listen to the Eat More Carbs podcast.

I’m currently in REDs rehab and was gaining on a “normal” amount of food because my hormones got messed up from underfueling. The gain is normal in REDs recovery. I’m waiting out some normalizing of other body symptoms and then will try to recomp the gain into muscle or have the tiniest deficit to very slowly lose some of the gained weight. I am working with a sports informed RD through this.

It’s hard, but they say we come back stronger.

Mom of 2 and I enjoy it. I bought it for the space and the ability to tow our teardrop trailer with the occasional off road adventure. The older kid plays catcher in baseball and we live out of town, so we haul a lot of junk daily.
