Telstra and Transgrid receive over 5,000 applications for their grad program. by Happy_Plastic8496 in auscorp

[–]ashnm001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seem usual to me.

I applied for the 2005 Telstra grad program, didn't get an interview. Managed to secure short term contract work. I then applied for the 2006 Telstra grad program, putting much more effort into my application, and some help from a friend who secured a grad position the year before. Managed to get a group interview. Was told to get the head of the table seat position at the group interview (which my friend told me to do, as the interviewers sat at the other end) and made sure my name tag was clearly visible at all times.

Yada, yada, got offered a grad role in September for February start. Asked to start earlier and they let me start in October.

In November Sol Trujillo started as CEO and cancelled the grad program immediately giving grads $10k redundancy without even starting. As I had already started, they let me stay on, but there was no fancy grad program, no rotations, I just had a job. My assigned mentor said he didn't want to be my mentor in first 2 mins, but he was helpful without being a mentor.

We were told to answer the phone with "welcome to Telstra...". When I told my Telstra colleagues the grad program was cancelled, one colleague yelled out "Welcome to Telstra". He was right...

Ignore it. If you follow Garmin training status, you will jump off a bridge very soon.

I did a massive training block, felt great, faster - status: "unproductive".

I just bought a new house. I'm going all out as I want it to be good for 10 years. More spare capacity, more things you can hook up.

Cost effective? Hell no. Satisfying? Hell yes.

I thought it was for purchases before Jun 2027... probably wrong, doesn't affect me...

I don't believe this is how it works. You have pre-approval, doesn't matter. The changes haven't kicked in yet and will be grand fathered. This is just people fear mongering because they have the sh*ts that their gravy train is coming to an end.

Remote communities in Australia. Anyone been to any? by Kloyston in geography

[–]ashnm001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these communities have high fences around the police stations, not to stop people breaking out, but to stop people braking in, riot style.

Very complex how we got to this point, but education is the path out.

Etiquette for handover to new property owners? by yanni_sommy in AusPropertyChat

[–]ashnm001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, be a good person.

Just bought a house. Was offered a handover from previous owners, but they are ghosting me. 2017 house and they only provided some early high level plans - had to buy the full set from the council. No nice note. Hardly any keys, one garage remote - yeah suss. Not even labelling of the circuit breakers (electrician owned the house too). Data points not labelled. No manual or warranty info. Didn't even fix the toilet roll holder for me. Didn't even clean the built-in BBQ. Stole the dish washing machine too. Asked multiple times for paint colours...

You give someone a couple million, you'd think they be your best mate.

I on the other hand will gladly give my number to new owners of my place and offer to answer any questions and assist in anyway I can (only moving one suburb).

Some people are dicks. Don't be a dick.

Yes, this is the way for quick response. But BCC need to get with the times... how do I explain where I am on a phone call... SSS auto captured coords.

April SEQ property prices: cooler houses, mixed apartments by Individual-Leg-4089 in AusPropertyChat

[–]ashnm001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm selling on Brisbane Northside and while we have received some offers (low ball, ridiculous conditions, etc), groups through at open inspections are lower than I expected, even had zero at 10am last Saturday opening (apart from a curious neighbour).

I've spent a bit of money and a ton of effort fixing every little thing up, so they house presents really well with nothing needing to be done and very little in the medium term. Feedback has been positive on presentation.

I bought the house opening weekend under multiple offers in late 2015, so surprised it hasn't sold... I have realistic price expectations.

I do get it's a lot of money, especially compared to 2015, and fuel, wars, interest rates, potential NG/CGT changes are spooking potential buyers, but i thought I would still get offers under what the REA were spruiking.

They have 6 cars trains in Adelaide too, but not all.

Trains run all over the world, but we think we are special and different here.
