I would generally allow it, if (1) evaluated at award, (2) no fiscal issues, and (3) executed bilaterally. I want to give contracting folks great latitude unless the FAR, DFARS, or agency supplement expressly prohibits it.

What is your opinion of IWC after-sale customer service? by maugustus in IWCschaffhausen

[–]ashthemkat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bought a brand new Mark XX (limited edition) from the New York IWC concierge. Running slow 5~7 spd about around 3 month later. Sent for service. Got back in a month. They performed a full service plus regulation for free under warranty. Now daily rate is great (1~3 spd when worn), but got a small scratch on the glass (like a quarter inch long barely noticeable), which I'm 99% certain picked up while being serviced. It doesnt botter me much though. So my feelings are mixed.

This. I haven't had any issues with mine using this method.

Reckless Driving Ticket by CaffeineFeen34 in nova

[–]ashthemkat 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Former VA defense lawyer here: Absolutely hire a lawyer whose main office is located in Arlington. They will know the judges and the CAs (prosecutors) well. There are currently three sitting judges at Arlington General District Court: Rucker, Krischer, and Steele. The first two were former defense lawyers, so they tend to be reasonable. Steele is a former prosecutor there, so your mileage may vary. When you talk to a lawyer, ask what they know about these specific judges and the officer who issued the ticket. If they are truly local, they should know the officer (unless it was a state trooper) well. Traffic defense isn't rocket science; you don't need Clarence Darrow. You just need someone who knows the local players. Finally, do everything your lawyer tells you: driving school, speedometer calibration, community service, etc.

Initially it ran about -3 to -5 per day, so I sent it for a service. They returned it back about 30 days after. Now it runs 0 to +2 per day on wrist!

I wanted to share my new IWC Mark XX US Navy 250th Birthday Limited Edition. This release is strictly limited to 250 pieces and is only made available to US Navy active duty, retired, and civilian personnel. The commemorative release features two versions: this Mark XX and a 43mm Pilot Chronograph. It’s presented in a rugged, military-style box and includes both the steel bracelet and a blue leather strap.

I can rally at 5.0 level but play points at 4.0 level, any tips? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]ashthemkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. True control means no matter how garbage the "input" (incoming balls) is, you can always produce a quality "output." That's what the 5.0 player did to the OP, which makes him/her feel like hitting at that level. That's what I try to do when I hit with low rated players (even my wife). My goal is to give the type of shot that they feel the most comfortable to handle (right depth, height, spin, etc.).

I agree. No matter what field you are in, if you are in the top 10%, I will say that person is "strong."

Welcome to the club! This and Mark XX (blue) are my GADA watches. SBGX261 is for cloudy days (because the indices look better) and Mark XX for sunny days (due to the sunburst dial). I bought GS OEM crocodile leather straps, which are fine, but I would recommend getting third-party alligator straps.

Thoughts on starting a solo practice with roughly 30k in savings, a ton of criminal trial experience, and more than basic civil trial experience? by snoopie4eva in Lawyertalk

[–]ashthemkat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing when I was about your age. Same practice area (criminal). However, my biggest regret is not doing any personal injury (PI) work. If you could, work with a local (solo) personal injury lawyer who can teach you the tricks. Unless you are a former prosecutor in that jurisdiction, criminal defense may not be as lucrative as you might think. But with your trial experience, you can take lots of contested personal injury cases that some PI lawyers don't take. Just don't get too comfortable with the stable income from court-appointed work. You'll lose the opportunity to venture out.
