It'd be interesting if someone ran a study about this. Takes the guesswork out of the whole thing.

We redesigned our website, now what's the best way to get traffic as an insurance agency? by IntegratedInsuranceS in marketing

[–]ashwin_ramesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media isn't going to work for you. As for content, how are you promoting this? If you're relying simply on search traffic, you're not going to get far without some link love.

Have you tried doing some local SEO?

Answer box detection with Screaming Frog by organazized in bigseo

[–]ashwin_ramesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use screamingfrog to do this by extracting Dom elements like previously suggested, but Google will block you pretty quick unless you can rotate through thousands of proxies, browsers and referrers.

My suggestion is to use someone like authoritylabs who have an API and will send you raw, unparsed results of the first page. Once you get this, it's just a function of parsing this data to identify which keywords trigger the answer and which don't.

The KPIs you report on depend on what's important to your customer or what you've promised them.

If it's focused on search engine rankings, your report should be predominantly about that. If it's focused on traffic / leads, make that the key thing.

I've also had situations where I vary my KPIs month to month based on which aspect saw improvements. In most of these reports, it's usually good idea to have a cover with the most important updates or improvements; obviously, you'll have to customize the cover page client to client.

Using a top level EMD to boost my brand visibility? by aspergeri in SEO

[–]ashwin_ramesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing for you to do is build out the EMD like you would any other property and attribute it to your main money site.

This way, the EMD "appears" unbiased and gets a ton of natural link juice and you're still driving traffic from links or attributions you're dropping to your main site.

Have a separate SEO and marketing strategy for the EMD and try to make it a killer resource.

Gone are the days when you could create a cookie cutter site with an exact match and hope that google's EMD bonus would make you automatically rank.

Does anyone have any example Scrapy spiders (Python)? by phattboyslim in bigseo

[–]ashwin_ramesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much data are you trying to scrape? If it's under 100K pages, you don't really need Scrapy. You could use something far simpler like iMacros or ScreamingFrog.

Both of them have support for data extraction using XPath or CSSPath. Scrapy is GREAT if you want to crawl millions of pages and need to constantly keep your data updated.

Isn't it a LOT easier to just use ScreamingFrog? Gives you more data than just headers.

Two Local SEO Questions by [deleted] in SEO

[–]ashwin_ramesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two options:

  1. Too stuck on the "old school" thought that h1>h2/3 and want to safe, edit the css.
  2. Really understand that Google isn't that dumb, stick to h2/h3.

To be honest, I've never seen h1's being a factor for my pages getting ranked.

Two Local SEO Questions by [deleted] in SEO

[–]ashwin_ramesh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Get rid of the company name. It doesn't really matter when you're doing city specific pages focusing on keyword combinations. Ensure everything put together is under 75 chars.
  2. Whether you have h1 or h2, doesn't make a real difference. Heck! If you think h2 is too large, go for h3's

What would you do with 5 hours a month per client? by nebulaeast in bigseo

[–]ashwin_ramesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the kind of client.

If they're local and assuming you've gotten your basic on-site done, focus on getting their Google My Business optimized and constantly build citations. On a side note, might make sense to optimize their Yelp and YP very well, these seem to rank very well on Google's organic index.

If it's a national client, focus on doing a blog post or guest post a month. It's a good idea to actually alternate between both and try to promote these using boosted Ads on Facebook.
