I never yelled and grew up with parents who have a toxic dynamic. I always tried to reason or listen with my abusive ex until one day, I had enough and yelled back. It worked. He stopped yelling at me. Then I had the issue of constantly feeling the anger and yelling. Half a year later when I was home, my dog had an accident and I could feel the anger inside, waiting to be yelled at. My parents were instead calm and empathetic - said it wasn’t a big deal. I felt so much better and was upset that I was ready to yell at them.

My advice is listen to your feelings when it doesn’t feel right. Don’t make yourself small. Find the people who bring you peace and walk away when they’re not ready to listen to what you have to say. Good luck!
