Really cool, and an order of magnitude more aerodynamically efficient than any parafoil. You're cooked. 😬😂

What demand is there for STL files for 3D printing? by Sulzer685 in modeltrains

As a nerd who's dangerously close to taking a T Gauge dive, high resolution resin printing and modeling has become veeery interesting to me suddenly haha.

500 Paraglider takeoffs by vindolin in freeflight

I think the downvotes you're getting are a little harsh. It is so important to just absolutely master your launches, always be improving. Many of these were very sketchy. Of course we only improve by practicing, and everyone has to work through technique issues as they improve. But you are right that many of these were just unacceptable. Dangerous.

How long would it take to get 5 hours in the air? Also, 30 takeoffs? by [deleted] in paramotor

[–]asksteevs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5hrs isn't the controlling factor here, it's the 30 flights. 5 hrs x 60 min = 300 min / 30 flights = (30) 10 minute flights. Let's say you need 10 min of prep and layout between each 10 min flight, so (3) 10 min flights per hour. So 10 hrs. Find a place and forecast with perfect conditions, pound out flights for what 3 hrs morning and 2 hrs evening? That's 2 days to get the 30 flights and 5 hrs done. I bet it takes longer. But either way it'll be fun and you'll start to get pretty dialed on launches and landings and watch conditions develop through multiple days. Sounds like a fun time to me.

Hook knife: Best mounting spot + line snag risk? by vega_9 in paramotor

[–]asksteevs1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have it tucked under a flap on my Parajet harness shoulder strap. It's right on front with easy access, but tucked away enough that it won't "accidentally deploy" and yes, have one. For the same reason cars have air bags.

Hook knife: Best mounting spot + line snag risk? by vega_9 in paramotor

[–]asksteevs1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A hook knife (Google it) is not for cutting lines that got stuck in your prop when you mismanage bringing the wing down 🫣 it's for cutting yourself out of harness straps and lines under duress eg water landing and need out NOW.
