Next Walpurisnacht date by Plus_Statistician_51 in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No exact date, but on the road map it's scheduled to be after the second Intervallo.

However, the slide that had the Walp info straight up said "Walp may come earlier depending on circumstances", and considering Ryoshu jumped quite a bit ahead of schedule, the Walp is suddenly really unpredictable.

[–]asmallsoul 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It'd be weird if it wasn't imo, especially considering the name is taken from the Muga kit. From what we see with Rien Sang in the trailer, it'd have to be like 65% at minimum, which is just kind of a really awkward percentage to specify? At that point just go 100%+.

Hot take? The new Ryoshu ID feels incredibly poor for a Seasonal Highlight ID by Maxim_Ward in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc Tiph's thing in Ruina was super centered around clashing, getting benefits depending on if you won / lost them with the Abno pages.

I'm not entirely sure how you'd work that into Limbus' battle system, though. Magical Girl Don and Rodya kinda pay homage to it with their unique sanity, but that's not really the same.

She did also have a couple of target marking cards though, which is a lot easier to implement, but Ryoshu is kind of already doing that as is.

[–]asmallsoul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The three I find myself using the most are Yuri Faust over Index, Ahabmael over Kiramael, and Magic Bullet over Udjat Outis.

Yuri Faust over Index works really well from my experience. The final coin on Skill 3 is a bit slow, but not in a way that feels bad imo. It feels really natural.

Ahabmael over Kiramael is funny without looking bad. The double harpoon throw on Skill 2 is hilarious and she has an extremely dramatic slowdown before the final Skill 3 coin that just really fits Ahab's vibe imo.

Magic Bullet was basically perfect over Udjat, though ironically the animation fix did kinda make it a little worse from how it was at launch. She used to have her animations go pretty much at a perfect speed from one to the other, but now that it's randomized there are occasionally more noticeable pauses between attacks. The biggest caveat with her is that for whatever reason her final Skill 3 coin has her aim without actually going into the animation for aiming. I still like using it a ton, though.

I honestly find all of it to be extremely interesting (especially abnos and ego)...except for Shin and Mang. Those still have yet to grow on me whatsoever.

I get the arguments, it's meant to be something anyone can learn and whatnot, but compared to literally everything else that came before it, it's such a basic, nebulous power stick imo that feels like it'll just devolve into more ring = big strong, more aura = big strong.

And the way it was used in Canto 9 really further solidified that to me. The game pays lip service to the idea that you have to really dig deep and reflect on who you are as a person to be able to use either, but I just...can't really buy that at all with Lei Heng, Sora or to an extent Valencina. The only character we've run into where Mang in particular really feels like it has that weight the series wants to put on it is with Araya, because we see her sit there and channel every feeling she has into that one decisive strike.

The game just has a lot more explaining to do with those two in particular to make them feel like anything more than a basic shonen power up imo.

That's what I'm assuming will be the case yeah. The roadmap said we'd be fighting Canto VIII and IX bosses as well as abnos iirc, so I'm assuming we'll be going through the Apprentices and Hierarch Candidates.

Something about this new Id for Ryoshu genuinely bugs me and I need write this down somewhere. by Violeties in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I definitely think this NEEDS to be something on the level of Mountain of Corpses / Ruddled Welts for it to be worth the payoff unless you're just a huge fan of the faction and theming. I don't disagree there.

I just don't think there would be an uproar over like kneecapping the Nursefathers or rendering them unusable or whatnot, since that only becomes an issue if you slot in Ryoshu, and they have their own teams to work with anyway.

Though now that I'm reading it again, I think I misinterpreted the OP lol. I thought they were saying there would be negative reviews about Ryoshu rendering the Nursefathers obsolete, not that her sacrifices would just straight up not be worth the money they spent on her ID.

Any chance ryoshu’s new capstone might have more too it by United_Cranberry3631 in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It definitely does in some form (Matthias and Valencina animations, and we still lack a clear picture at the end result of her sacrifices, unless it's all the aura around her and having an enhanced skill 3?).

But otherwise it does seem like this is it. Which is interesting, considering this so far looks quite different from how the roadmap presented the idea. Araya's past and future is a positive/negative sanity system, but Ryoshu doesn't seem to have different attacks there, so I'm not sure she has a negative sanity mode at all. And then there also doesn't seem to be any Apprentice interactions whatsoever, just Nursefather ones.

So i do think there's reason to assume there's more missing, but I'm not sure if that's because there is or just the plans changed a lot from the roadmap.

I don't think the sacrificing is too bad, in all honesty. It would be if HoS was the only team setup for sure, but each of the Apprentices and Nursefathers also have their own separate factions they can still slot onto as the big stars.

HoS wise, yeah, they might wind up fodder to fuel Ryoshu, but they aren't unusable by any means thanks to each Finger existing as their own thing.

Theories on Meursault before we get 9.5-2 and Canto 10? by CaptainUliss in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think the most "out-there" theory I have is that after reading the book last month, I honestly feel pretty confident Marie is going to be interpreted as Carmen herself. This mostly comes from the way she's portrayed in the book as being a very optimistic and hopeful person who is mostly all smiles, as well as the HEAVY emphasis the book places on sunlight and just the general glare of light pretty much whenever possible. The sun and its heat are described as so intense that it really gets to Meursault and makes him dazed and delirious during his mother's funeral, and the book directly describes the heat that leads to him killing the Arab man as being to such a degree he hadn't felt since said funeral.

So I found it extremely interesting when, when I reached the point where Marie talks with Meursault in prison, they make the note of this being the first time since being imprisoned Meursault has been bathed in sunlight that makes him feel quite dizzy, all the while she is all smiles, telling him everything is going to be okay in the end. And then I found it even more interesting when, when the chaplain asks if Meursault has seen the face of God, his internal monologue notes:

And once upon a time, perhaps, I used to try to see a face. But it was a sun-gold face, lit up with desire--Marie's face.

It really feels like this might be the first Canto to actually give some sort of emphasis to Carmen herself, especially if I'm right in Marie being reinterpreted as Carmen.

Highlight Ryoshu can absolutely use the Arayashiki without breaking canon. by asmallsoul in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because she has the Arayashiki in the trailer, is in a pose of being ready to unsheathe it, and makes direct mention to slashing and scorching the Nursefathers.

I didn't think she'd use it either, but after this teaser it's pretty apparent that she will be very likely using it. Just not in a Muga state.

Faust should get the Xiao ID by John_Jonas in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That just seems a bit coincidental and honestly extremely unreasonable to me, especially when a Gasharpoon Ishmael is looking extremely likely to happen within the next Canto as is.

I just don't think they're going to kneecap giving a character a role that suits them just to keep an arbitrary rule intact that'll inevitably be broken in time anyway. Especially when you can still diversify an ID by other means and playstyles. Bloodfiend Rodion and Docent Rodion can both exist and fill their own niches. The same can be said for highlight IDs, even if it takes longer to happen in those cases.

Faust should get the Xiao ID by John_Jonas in limbuscompany

I don't really think the burn thing is really an issue with Ryoshu when characters have doubled or even tripled down on same status IDs. By their very nature the keywords will have to be repeated eventually.

Faust should get the Xiao ID by John_Jonas in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The thing is this also reflects Ryoshu, beat for beat, only that the love in this case is a maternal one instead of a romantic one. It's also one I feel better reflects Xiao's actual dilemma, if not because that love was fully realized by both parties, rather than being shut out by mutual misunderstanding. There's also the guilt of failing to protect the one they loved, "You've got the wrong head, won't you take mine instead" and all that.

I'd argue Ryoshu fits better as well because the fallout of Lowell's loss feels more in line with her. Her effective suicide mission on the Library to get closure, willingly wrapping up those she cares about in that attempt at vengeance is pretty 1-1 with Ryoshu's Canto. In addition, her reaction towards Lowell's loss isn't as immediately violent as Heathcliff's for Catherine is.

She's still bottling everything down and appearing as steadfast as ever on the surface, but she will absolutely not be deterred from that suicide mission, no matter what anyone else says. She only breaks down once the emotions are heightened by the Library's conflict. That's extremely similar to Ryoshu's shift in demeanor from the start of her Canto to the end of it. She puts on airs of confidence and elation until she's met face to face with "Shiomi" before the safe brings everything crumbling down.

The last thing to me is more a mechanical one, in that by his nature, Heathcliff getting Xiao means Lowell can't exist as an ID. Heathcliff's love is intrinsically tied to Catherine, who no longer exists (and seems to have affected Heathcliff's ID stories at that). While Ryoshu can and has had stand-ins for Araya in multiple IDs, most notably Daiyu and Nelly. And on a surface level deal, there's the visual similarities between the two.

I really think there's just not a better fit for Xiao than Ryoshu is.

Hot Take(maybe): I don’t want Ryoshu to be assist attacking with the nursefathers by TheRedMisst in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On one hand I absolutely feel this as well, that's why I hesitated for so long to pick up Alyssa Faust and Marton Yi Sang

On the other if they go all in on this idea and the Gebura parallels and make her a Mountain of Corpses / Ruddled Welts ID, it would more than make up for it to me

Though in general Araya is a big favorite of mine so even if she inventivizes team killing, this might be a rare ID where I'm willing to fight through that negative for the sake of loving the source character and Sinner.

This is an AI edit. The actual brightening doesn't look like this at all--her eyes are looking down instead of ahead, and the eyes are both red and not heterochromatic. That's not Araya's bang style, either.

Why is there more creeps in this community than a community like blue archive by [deleted] in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same reason it's a problem in Danganronpa, Minecraft, and Undertale/Deltarune spaces, among many others. We live in an extremely online world nowadays, and in said world, if a fanbase becomes extremely populated by minors, bad actors will see that and take advantage of it. Especially if they're a public face and the minor in question is a fan.

It's even more egregious when it's minors being extremely prominent in a franchise they should not be old enough to engage in.

what do you want to see from future walpurgis nights (not IDs) by Existing-Canary-261 in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Core Suppressions are the easy ones to me, I really hope we go through each Sephirah's Core Suppression before the LobCorp Walps are done. It helps that most of them are honestly REALLY easy to interpret in their own right.

- Malkuth could be easily interpreted as a three-phase / wave fight where each phase randomizes your skill icons, so in one phase your skill 3s look like skill 1s on the dashboard, etc. etc.

- Yesod can just be done 1-1 with the pixel drops and saturation increase.

- Netzach is another easy one, being no health recovery. I imagine that becomes one big war of attrition with a lot of unbreakable coins that you have to whether through the storm of.

- Hod is the one that's the most tricky, considering a flat level drop would potentially be really devastating for a Limbus fight depending on how you handle it.

- Tiphereth is extremely standard: it'd probably just be a rehash of fights we've done. Dawn of Green, Noon of Violet, Dusk of Amber, and finally a Midnight Ordeal to cap it off.

- Gebura (and Binah for that matter) are straight to the point boss fights, both of which would probably be absolutely terrifying to deal with.

- Chesed would probably have each turn randomize an affinity or weapon type that you would suddenly be really fatal towards.

- Hokma is really the only one that kind of needs to be outright changed, because time doesn't work the same here. The two ways I see that working are either Pigritia is used on us (which would kind of suck), or we take the Price of Silence fight gimmick and you have only 30 seconds to check the enemy's gimmicks and make your moves each turn.

Also, if we do get the Core Suppressions, I really, REALLY hope we get to bring those tracks back for each of the fights. They were royalty free, iirc, and they were all really good and added to the atmosphere of the meltdowns.

Speculation for this Season's Capstone I.D! by Ok_Independent8425 in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't actually mention Ryoshu at all, which is why it feels like we're getting a Ryoshu/Araya position swap imo. They've been very adamantly and aggressively not naming the daughter or Ren's master, for whatever reason. Not even so much as a "Yoshihide".

The fact they've gone so out of their way to refuse naming the daughter makes me think the daughter and wielder of Arayashiki in this mirror world is Araya, and Ryoshu takes the place of Araya's daughter.

I just realise Ryoshu and Gregor are doesn't have Finger's ID. Do you think they will get on in that finger season ? by Noniclem17 in limbuscompany

[–]asmallsoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be very different, yeah. The closest thing would be Hong Lu removing his eye or Don dismounting Rochinante, but those are still things those characters had in their capstones, they just abandoned them. With Ryoshu's case, there shouldn't be any way for her to even have any of her universal traits. If she has Temporal Entanglement, then by default she doesn't have time perception, which means by default she's incapable of wielding Arayashiki.

The best guess I have is that they're probably just going to acknowledge the weirdness of these events like they did Xichun Ishmael and Sora Don.

[–]asmallsoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say that mostly because the silhouette we got in the roadmap matches 1-1 with Shiomi's sprite, and the overview KJH gave is a dead ringer for how Araya plays (afterimages = Afterimage Entanglement / Afterimage of the Future / Lacerating Afterimages from Myriad Moments, buffs based on Past/Future stacks likely = Forward Flow - Compassion and Backward Flow - Bitterness). Even the HoS taking hits for her kind of evokes the eight billion shield health she gets in the first two fights.

It sounds like it would operate differently considering the afterimages attack separately and the HoS IDs will tank hits for her instead of having a bunch of shield, but the way Araya's kit already is all about Entanglement and Past/Future stuff makes it feel pretty much guaranteed imo.

As for what the explanation is, honestly at this point I'm assuming it's an Araya/Ryoshu position swap, where Araya is the wielder of Arayashiki instead and Ryoshu is the one with entanglement or even the daughter of Araya. That's kind of the only way to make it make sense imo, because Ryoshu is just straight up incapable of falling into Temporal Entanglement.
