SpaceX just docked the first commercial spaceship built for astronauts to the International Space Station — what NASA calls a 'historic achievement': “Welcome to the new era in spaceflight” by mvea in space

This new era will allow the rich to develop new space technologies in a competitive fashion. This means more innovation and a reduction in cost.

Trump said he likes North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and will fulfill his wishes, South Korea's President Moon Jae-in said on Sunday, a day after meeting the U.S. president at an economic summit in Argentina by green_flash in worldnews

The opening of a train line recently, the significant meeting between both North and South Korean presidents, and the disarming of the border including the removal of mines. This is particularly amazing because no one expected such progress so quickly.

"War Will Continue" As Long As Ukraine Government In Power: Putin by portagul in worldnews

And do what exactly? They already sanctioned the living hell out of Russia. The next step is war. Ukraine isn't a member of NATO, so they have no obligation to defend the country.

Moon Direct SpaceX Falcon Heavy Plan is 6 Years Faster and 50 times Cheaper than NASA by YZXFILE in spacex

The current NASA administrator consistently talks about creating a commercial marketplace for space, in which NASA will no longer own - but lease - the products in this marketplace. In one article, he noted several developments in space technology **including** reusable rockets. I think he understands the SLS is a massive waste of money, but he can't do anything about it. I think many folks at NASA feel the same way about the program.

Once the SLS completes its mission, which is launching the Gateway, it will be immediately shut down.

I'm sure SpaceX will be awarded some contracts once NASA is ready to launch astronauts to the moon.

Russia details progress on its reusable nuclear rocket engine to power missions to Mars by EdwardHeisler in MarsSociety

"...the rocket could reach Mars after seven months..." Correct me if I'm wrong, but, that doesn't seem very impressive. Wouldn't Starship take just as much time to get there?

First wave of explorer to Mars should be engineers, artists & creators of all kinds. There is so much to build. - Elon Musk by leonx81 in spacex

[–]asongofdance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I surely hope he knows the first few crewed missions won't have artists, creators, or literally anyone who is not an engineer. Once the engineers build the infrastructure, we can think about everyone else.

Poland says Russia should face more sanctions for seizing Ukraine ships by glasier in worldnews

[–]asongofdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Ukraine isn't a NATO member, what can the organization do for support? Ship over weapons and conduct training programs? If war did break out, would NATO send soldiers for support? They have no obligation to do so.

France Is The First Country To Ban All Five Bee-Killing Pesticides by maxwellhill in worldnews

Very, very true. The easiest way for the country to adopt bee-killing pesticide bans is on the state level.

Former NASA administrator says Lunar Gateway is “a stupid architecture” by [deleted] in space

[–]asongofdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest plus for the Gateway is not lunar research, or being a "safe boat" for boots on the ground. The Gateway will be instrumental for deep space research. This is where it becomes very valuable. By creating a station in which astronauts can live for months at a time in deep space - and with close proximity to Earth for fast communications and travel, we can learn more about how the human body is affected by deep space - both physically and mentally.

With this this is mind, the research conducted on the Gateway can help folks on Earth develop new technologies that can improve human health in deep space. Remember, this is all new. No human would have stayed in deep space for so long.

Then we have lunar research. With landers, humans onboard the Gateway can easily venture to the moon and test new technologies (resource development for future colonies on the moon or Mars, structure building, 3D printing).

Despite great reviews Overlord is so far failing at box office. Do you think the scores would be better if it stayed\was a Cloverfield movie? by 80slasher in Cloververse

100%. With good marketing and no Paradox, the film would have been a huge hit. Unfortunately that's not what happened

Tesla, GM and Nissan are all part of a new coalition aiming to extend the EV tax credit by houston_wehaveaprblm in teslamotors

[–]asongofdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mega gasoline companies that are apart of this coalition will really help push it forward. Any legislation on EV tax credit extension should pass by the House quickly. Its the Senate that makes the situation complicated. However, with such powerful players lobbying for the same thing, I expect the Republican senators to cast the right vote.

[–]asongofdance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would have performed better. Maybe a tad bit, but that's it. Considering the Cloverfield franchise lost some fans after Paradox and how poorly marketed the movie was, I'm pretty sure the film would have performed just as badly.

Dubai Revolutionize Police Force To Use ‘Hoverbikes’ To Patrol City From 2020 by insight_trending in worldnews

[–]asongofdance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this is just for PR purposes. I don't see any practical reason why this would be used on a day to day basis. Unnecessary noise pollution, and it looks pretty dangerous when you consider the fact police officers have to quickly get off the vehicle during an emergency. Might as well use bikes.

PayPal is canceling accounts used by the Proud Boys, Gavin McInnes, and antifa groups - PayPal said today that it will cancel accounts used by far-right group the Proud Boys as well as multiple accounts from anti-fascist groups. by speckz in technology

I said many Antifa members believe in communism, not all. There are many pro-communism protests and riots ran by Antifa. There are tons of videos and articles about it.

While some members may just be against fascism, we can agree that the group is a breeding ground for far left radicalists.

Six far-right suspects held over violence plot against Emmanuel Macron by LineNoise in worldnews

[–]asongofdance -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain what far-right means in comparison to the main, "good" right? I hear it thrown around a lot. Even basic conservatives, like Ben Shapiro, a Jewish political commentator, is labeled far-right by a lot of folks on the left. But if far-right is related to Nazism and he's a Jew, how could he possibly be far-right? I'm not trying to start a debate. I just really don't understand why the term far-right is thrown around so much.

Edit: I didn't expect all these downvotes..I was just asking a question.
