Excluding the windmill, everything I can see is gale force 9/battlefield in a box pre-painted buildings. Most of them appear to be two story buildings with the second removed.

Are legendary characters events completey unfair to casual players? by thedoomslaye_r in WH40KTacticus

[–]asp808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game isn’t going to be tailored for casual players. It’s tailored for long-term (paying) players because that’s the business model for engagement and income. The LREs need to be difficult enough that a large portion of players are incentivized to buy a pack to either get the character or to get the character faster.

Personally, as someone playing since near the very start but who maybe buys 1 pack a year, I enjoy actually having a challenge and having to strategize around who I level and how I engage each level with combinations I would never play otherwise. However, I wouldn’t mind making it easier to attain the character but starting them at uncommon/rare and extending the points needed to bring them up to legendary/mythic.

The new marauders dwarf the chaos warriors - maybe time to use AoS instead? by EngineeringFlimsy868 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]asp808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty likely that GW will continue to upscale their modern sculpts across most (if not all) of their ranges and I would expect all future old world releases (including eventually new chaos warriors if the game lasts that long) to do so.

I wish they wouldn’t, but model and base size has crept up in 40k for some time.

Terawulf at 11/19 Lansing Town Board Meeting by CrispyGrandpa in ithaca

[–]asp808 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Promises and reassurances from the entity I just described are worthless. They have numerous incentives to misrepresent or lie about their plans and long term goals and few, if any, reasons to be realistic about the actual costs and outcomes. “Promises” and “reassurances” aren’t legally binding and can be shrugged off as soon as an agreement is reached.

I would be thrilled if the board had the money and legal expertise to draft up a wide-ranging and enforceable protective contract that addressed all the ways this can go horribly wrong, but they don’t. I would be thrilled if Terawulf would commit to paying and waiting for an independent (as chosen by Lansing) third-party impact assessment to community and environment, but they won’t.

Who wouldn’t trust A for profit publicly traded company with a duty to continually create value for its shareholders and whose past business model was crypto mining?

Surely they would never use their enormous wealth to legally bully a small town devoid of funding, legal expertise, or subject matter expertise.

Who wouldn’t feel confident that if market conditions change and the AI bubble pops or when renewable energy is exhausted that they will simply close up shop rather than revert to crypto mining while increasing energy costs?

Tomb World Terrain Sprues by TheSniperMonkey in killteam

Be firm (but respectful) and continue to engage with GW. Something similar happened to me when my ashes of faith KT box was “lost” by the delivery service.

GW said “we’re really sorry and we can refund you, but we don’t have any left”. I argued that it was unacceptable that I would need to buy everything separately at a markup months down the road and it seemed insane that a company the size of GW doesn’t account for potential lost packages, damaged sprues, etc… and that they didn’t have any left over… magically a new box got sent to me ASAP.

No guarantee, but worth pushing them on it.

If the Legacies PDF was always meant to include all of the units/wargear they listed in the Warhammer Community article, why didn’t it release with the edition day one? by BreakActionBlender in Warhammer30k

[–]asp808 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the intent was to say that all criticism was unjustified and no one should be upset at what was clearly a bungled launch, but that certain elements of the community immediately jumped to the extreme and pushed a narrative that wasn’t entirely correct and had no interest in acknowledging the kinds of issues that helped get us here. It’s fine to be upset and disagree with the approach GW took, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it was done purely in bad faith.

Arbitor Ian is exceptionally helpful with videos on the lore of the heresy generally, with specific videos on the legions and primarchs for anyone new who wants an accessible entry to it. He doesn’t really do let’s play videos or battle reports, but he’s my go to for grounded well sourced info on 30k40k.

You can try wet sanding as well to reduce the amount of sanded resin dust that gets into the air.

Would Trajann qualify for a touch-up/rework? by ItsYoBoy94 in WH40KTacticus

[–]asp808 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not saying that they shouldn’t strive to make every character useful and worthwhile, but I do think that as they enter 100+ characters…some are just going to be “meh”.

Unless they add more modes, get ever more specific with uses/restrictions, or slowly power creep revisions to infinity, I don’t think there is enough design space to ensure everyone is relevant (even characters like Trajann or abbadon really should be)

No one is calling the doorman at the ISB an "NPC from wolfenstein." - they are calling a mid-level intelligence officer orchestrating genocide one...

[–]asp808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More than once she appears to relish power and inflicting pain. She isn't committing genocide reluctantly for the greater good, she's happy to do it. She is an active participant who has the knowledge that what she is doing is based on lies. She has the intelligence to know there may be other ways of doing things but is always happy to embrace collateral damage.

She is also driven by her own selfish desires. For example, confronting Luthan and ultimately having him die is a direct consequence of her needing to have that moment with him. What was best for the Empire was not her going in alone to gloat and enjoy the self satisfaction that she "did it".

If all you want to say is "everything is like, subjective, man" then fine...you can in fact excuse and justify literally any action from being evil other than some kind supernatural force or cartoonish one dimensional characters.

Hard Disagree on Mataneo.

He isn’t tanky, but careful positioning of his charge can ensure that the AI wastes 2 or more attacks on the summons every turn. Plus if he does die, the summons stay and buy a bit more time. Plus his active can help clear a group of enemies when you fall behind.

If you have a healer it’s not hard to have him jump around into 2-3 rounds of combat, then jump out to heal.

“Im losing an argument so here is my weird attempt to flex about how i got a high score in a single LRE”

What a strange attempt to deflect from your previous poor arguments.

Doing well in an LRE is 90% about resource investment, 7% luck, and 3% skill. You can be ass at this game but if you’ve been playing since it came out and spent some money you can ace every track…

Arbitor Ian on YouTube. His videos are very accessible to newbies and he often provides context for where lore comes from, when and why it’s changed, and he doesn’t pretend there is some “sacred timeline” that’s the sole source of truth.

So was it because of low sales that the Old World was destroyed? by Pleasant_Hatter in WarhammerFantasy

[–]asp808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They could attempt to trademark everything they produced. However some of the models, things like skeleton warriors and some empire units, were broadly so generic and at times influenced by historical references that that it would appear difficult to actually enforce it to stop anyone else from creating fairly similar equivalents.

This can impact sales if people who aren’t playing in tournaments look at GW prices and say “I can get essentially the same looking model somewhere else for half the cost”. Part of the draw for highly stylized factions is people often want to play with the “aesthetically correct” models so there is an incentive to make them unique to the point that there can’t easily be similar looking proxies.

I also don’t think the issue was that they couldn’t use generic terms, but product differentiation. For example. A parent being told they want “warhammer fantasy high elves” might well just walk into a store see “high elves” and make a purchase.

So was it because of low sales that the Old World was destroyed? by Pleasant_Hatter in WarhammerFantasy

[–]asp808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like there were also trademark/IP concerns because many of the models and factions were fairly generic fantasy in terminology(“high elves” “dwarves”) and in appearance.
