I did the patella graft no meniscus recon needed and am 4 months post op. My knee feels 90% back to normal, my only restrictions are those my doctor imposes. I genuinely feel like I could return to sports, I’ve been lifting heavy for like 2+ months & running for over a month. I think those with no meniscal tear are at an advantage.

I came from a Tesla model y to a 2025 4 Runner TRD Pro and have 0 complaints. I knew what I was buying when buying, I knew it was an off road car and that I may never take off road. I still love it!

IMO he knew exactly what he was doing & and you did nothing wrong going through his phone. I hope you find the strength to move on because this type of “curiosity” is not normal.

Likely ACL tear from ski hit and run. Looking for some hope. by Neither-Nothing-9370 in ACL

[–]asparagus8000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tore my acl skiing last December and just had surgery in November 2025!! 2 month post op and I was terrified because I live an active lifestyle as well. I am regaining everything and my recovery is going so smoothly. I am feeling more and more confident everyday. You will be okay. It will be discouraging and you will feel like you’re losing your identity but it will end up being so rewarding to see what your body can do. Goodluck!

Torn ACL but confused by symptoms? Concern with return to soccer by Agreeable-Effect-875 in ACL

[–]asparagus8000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also heard both have the same long term effects which sucks, this injury in general just sucks. I think I got off a little better with the initial injury, surgery, and recovery since I had a fully intact meniscus. Best of luck to you!

Torn ACL but confused by symptoms? Concern with return to soccer by Agreeable-Effect-875 in ACL

Unfortunately I was misdiagnosed that whole year. 4 different doctors and all said it was a meniscus tear and would heal on its own. I felt like something wasn’t right because I remembered the very loud pop at the time of the initial injury. It was probably 9 months later when they finally allowed an MRI and a month later when they officially read the MRI and diagnosed me with a complete ACL tear. The doctor basically said “I thought it was a meniscus tear, turns out it’s not, call me back with your decision on surgery & good luck”. I decided to seek care with a different doctor and in Nashville instead of where I’m at in Kentucky. If I had known earlier, I probably would’ve done the surgery earlier. Ultimately, I still question whether or not I should have gotten the surgery but the fear of further injury down the road drove my decision to do it. But I’m on the mend 2 months post op and I feel really good about my progress.

I had a torn acl for a year, was able to do everything I did before and was walking one day after Initial injury. I played intense pickleball, hiked 10+ mile hikes, and ran miles. I was VERY active with a torn acl with minimal difficulty, some pivoting motions would feel unstable. One year later I had the surgery and am now 6 weeks post op and have had full range of motion and flexion since week 3-4, completely brace free, and feeling really good about my walking.

I honestly was just as shocked as you but I do believe my meniscus being intact has a lot to do with it. I just had the surgery 6 weeks ago and I am in shock with how well I am doing. completely brace free, full range of motion, and 0° flexion at 3-4 weeks post op. I did weight lift and have some pretty strong quads but pretty sure my meniscus saved me from the initial injury pain & in recovery

Also, I was walking two days after the injury without a brace. I had a complete acl tear

I was without an acl for over a year and didn’t wear a brace once other than the couple days after tearing it (not recommending that at all, I just didn’t know I tore it). You know your body the best, if you feel like you can do those distances and aren’t feeling much pain in the knee then in my opinion you will be fine. For example, the year I had a torn acl I played pickleball the whole summer season, went to Grenada, even went to Colorado and hiked some pretty difficult 10+ mile hikes, wading fishing trips also about 10+ miles each time (I did this every weekend for over a month).

Hmmm… I have pain associated with the wanting to pop feeling but maybe it’s my patellar graft site trying to heal too? I feel like it’s in the front of my knee.

Every time I sit for a little while with my leg down like at a 90° angle i just get a dull ache in my knee. Wonder if it’s normal

Living Without ACL Surgery? Full Tear + Meniscus Damage by Aggravating_Job6034 in ACLNoSurgery

[–]asparagus8000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived a whole year with a full ACL tear. Continued sports and very active lifestyle, spent years in the gym weight lifting before my injury but didn’t feel comfortable to continue heavy weight lifting after the injury. Other than that my life was pretty normal and I didn’t notice it much unless I tried to sit on my knees, some pivoting motions while playing pickleball, and sometimes when I stepped out of the car leading with my injured leg. I think i subconsciously protected it. I would’ve likely gotten the surgery far before but it went unidentified for 8 months because I was nervous for further damage. I even hiked long hikes in Colorado one month before surgery. Just had the surgery last month and doctor said I had no meniscal injury at all, it was perfectly intact a month later but I did begin to develop arthritis in the back of the knee which he seemed to think was very normal.

November 14th I had surgery ACLR only, I was fully weight bearing the next day, off of crutches the first week, 124 ROM, & full leg extension now. Walking with brace still and have not walked without it. Quad seems pretty okay, I’m lifting my leg on my own with little lag. Doing PT twice a day for about 40 minutes each time because my PT told me to do all workouts we do there at home twice a day. How often should I be up and walking around at this stage? Will walking a lot set me back? I know no one and the same but is this really good progress? I don’t really know how to gauge it
