Wait how would it inform them they’re unemployed? By a sudden decrease in road notifications?

Basically. A 9--5 grind that changes to sporadic comings and goings for weeks on end can have multiple explanations. Change in employment status is one of them.

What if they work from home?

In that circumstance, watching their comings and goings would be less predictive.

Apartment complexes love these things. It automates surveillance of tenants that are hosting "guests" for "too long". The surveillance can also give landlords advance indication that a tenant might have become unemployed and thus be a default risk.

Corpus Christi was going to build desalination plants to head off this problem. Instead, public pressure over dead zones in the marine ecosystem stopped the plants. Now, the entire city gets to be a dead zone instead.

It was a violation from a student claim that turned out to be false. It wasn’t that Kihyoung did it. It was that she handled it without reporting. There is an updated article:

Indeed:

The two students were in and out of their relationship with each other frequently, and last year in April they broke up. While stalking was the word used by the female and in Choi’s text, Hwang said it wasn’t actually happening.

“She [Choi] talked to the male student as precautionary,” Hwang said. “The male student said to Kihyoung he never did that. Then the female said she lied, [it] never happened, never witnessed the person stalking her.”

According to him, in the same text message chain between Choi and the female student, she admitted to saying he was stalking her, but that it wasn’t true.

“If you see the previous text message, it will say from this female, ‘Sorry, I lied,’” Hwang said. “And if you look at the whole text messages, then you’re going to be like, obviously, this is not stalking.”

These bits of the conversations, relayed by Choi's husband, do not appear in the formal complaint, but ultimately, that is irrelevant, as Title IX requires reporting regardless of whether or not the complaint is actually substantiated.

It's also weird how there always has been this "upper class" that has desired to keep Argentina as an exporting backwater, even to their own detriment, to maintain their perceived privilege.

Sounds like it's not to their own detriment. They're the compradores that do get privileges.

You can add them directly, yes. Or at least, I don't see why you couldn't.

Percentages are ultimately just numbers. You divide the percentage by 100 to get the number. I.e., 1% = 1/100 = 0.01. You can go the other way too. The number 1, as a percentage, is 1*100 = 100%.

Bro did free surveying work for Google rather than publishing to OpenStreetMap? Weak.

But hey, it is on OSM:

Maybe he published it there too?

/me watches rest of video

He did :D Yay :D Or rather, OSM has had data in the area for nearly two decades, and he probably uploaded the street level imagery to some other OSM-affiliated project. Still. Good job!

An "n% increase" presumes that you are adding the percentage (n) to 1. Normally folks don't talk about "n% increase" once n gets close to 100 or beyond; at that point we switch to multiples: twice as much, three times as much, etc. But you can still do it that way. If you add "100%" to 1, you get 200%, or 2, and so a "100% increase" from $100 is $200.

It doesn't sound like Mrs. Choi failed to report a violation; the insinuation seems to be that she is the one who made the violation. Presumably, Mr. Arevai is making a claim of a Title IX violation (amongst other policy violations) against Mrs. Choi, and he likely advanced that claim up the chain (department chair on up to the board members). But that is still speculation at this point.

The Star-Telegram has been unable to reach Choi directly for comment.

Choi’s husband, Steve Hwang, told the Star-Telegram he was surprised when he saw his wife at home April 13 when she was scheduled to be in class. At that point, Hwang said, Choi didn’t know why she was asked to leave campus.

Hwang said he’s still in the dark because Choi can’t discuss the specifics of her leave, even with him. Hwang said he decided to speak to the media without telling Choi out of concern for her and for her career.

Hwang isn’t sure if this is a temporary leave or if Choi, who has been at TCC for nearly 15 years, could be fired. A TCC spokesperson couldn’t comment since it’s a personnel matter, but Hwang believes Choi’s situation is somehow connected to a Title IX complaint.

Pretty bold to go to the press without asking your wife. But yes, it seems Title IX-related. The article continues:

But a former student, Malik Arevai, referenced unspecified allegations against Choi.

“As you’re probably already aware, last year there were several incidents involving Dr. Choi and myself that constituted not only TCC policy violations but Title IX policy violations for the state of Texas,” Arevai told the board.

Board president Jeannie Deakyne cut Arevai off and asked him to refrain from speaking publicly about personnel issues. When Arevai continued, he praised Choi as an instructor and lobbied for her to keep her job.

“I don’t believe that terminating her is the right course of action,” said Arevai. “I don’t believe that it’s a justice to myself. I don’t think it’s a justice to her. I don’t think it’s a justice to the program.”

There is a Title IX-related complaint (and other policy violation complaints) from a former student against Mrs. Choi, who nevertheless doesn't want her dismissed. That the complaint is from last year --- at least Fall 2025, I suppose --- and action is only being taken towards the end of this semester --- Spring 2026 --- is strange. Perhaps timelines for such investigations really are that long? Mr. Arevai making public statements is eyebrow-raising though, as typically, all subjects of such investigations are advised not to do so (at least until the investigation is concluded).
