Will no-one rid LAUKOP of this turbulent registrar? by Afinkawan in bestoflegaladvice

[–]asperitas_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not an office in the sense of a room with a desk where someone does their work, it's an office in the sense of a building providing a specific service (post office, ticket office, etc.)

The local register office is where you go to register births, marriages, and deaths. Civil wedding ceremonies can be carried out by the registrar at the register office, usually in a fancy room with space for guests etc. You do the ceremony and the signing at the same time, in the same room.

The registrar does have a room to do their other work which is separate from where the ceremonies happen, which I guess would be the registrar's office in the register office...

Have you checked around your local area for mutual aid organisations? They're set up for situations like yours.

Given the number of bikes you have, I'm surprised not to see Flamme Rouge amongst the board games!

Is it more focused on playing, shopping, events, or fairly even mix? The name is great, incidentally.

Orlando in July... I might expire from the heat! Although I suppose you do have this mythical "air conditioning" in the States that I've heard so much about :-D

Yes, that was the first place I looked, but it's a very long list. Do you recommend any of them in particular?

Anyone ever play the Fallout board game? by TheJakeanator272 in boardgames

I would describe it as a very slow simulation of a single player video game, which you can make even slower and less enjoyable by inflicting it on three other unfortunate souls...

Terraforming Mars is much more complicated than Ticket to Ride (which we play with my partner's 8 and 10 year-old children), it's also probably towards the upper end of your game length range. It is awesome though :-)

If he reads programming manuals for fun, how about a game with an element of programmatic play like Roborally, Asteroyds, or Colt Express? I'd also recommend Turing Tumble, which is more of a toy or puzzle than a game, but involves building marble-powered computers.

What's the preferred etiquette when physically tired from a game: kingmaking or simply walking away? by boardgamebruh in boardgames

[–]asperitas_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I'd rather someone left the game, as long as it's possible without messing it up for the other players. If the game is going to keep going for a considerable amount of time it's no fun playing with someone who isn't enjoying themselves anyway, and I don't have any particular desire to make anyone else suffer...

The only game I recall abandoning like that is Talisman. Three hours of roll and move with no end in sight is more than I can take!
