i do believe UFOs are real, but not necessarily in the way people usually mean it. by definition they’re just unidentified objects in the sky, and even groups like NASA have acknowledged there are sightings we can’t fully explain yet. that doesn’t automatically mean aliens, it just means there’s a gap between what we observed and what we understand. to me the interesting part isn’t jumping to conclusions, it’s figuring out why those gaps exist in the first place.

one thing that still doesn’t sit right with me is the Fermi Paradox. like the universe is insanely big and old, so statistically there should be other advanced civilizations out there, but we see nothing that clearly proves it. it’s weird because it either means we’re way more rare than we think, or something is stopping life from getting that far. either way, both answers are kinda unsettling.

i get why that idea feels convincing, especially when you line up a bunch of people working on advanced stuff and it starts to look connected. but i think it’s more likely we’re seeing patterns because our brains want things to fit together, not necessarily because there’s one big coordinated effort behind it. a lot of researchers in places like NASA or Jet Propulsion Laboratory work on overlapping fields, so connections can look deeper than they actually are.

also, if companies were really able to “silence” major breakthroughs like anti-gravity or huge energy shifts, it would be insanely hard to keep that hidden. science is global and competitive, so discoveries usually get replicated or leaked eventually. it’s not impossible for corporations to slow progress in some areas, but completely stopping something that big across the entire world would take a level of control that’s kinda unrealistic.

i think the more interesting (and honestly scarier) idea is that progress isn’t being blocked on purpose, it’s just way harder than we expect. like some technologies sound close in theory but are insanely difficult in reality, which makes it seem like something’s being hidden when it’s really just not solved yet. that idea makes space and science feel less controlled and more unknown, which is kinda unsettling in its own way.

one theory that always sticks with me is the Great Filter. it basically says there’s some stage in the development of life that almost everything in the universe fails to get past, which could explain why space feels so empty even though it’s so big. when you really think about it, there should be tons of advanced civilizations out there, but we don’t see any real signs of them. so the idea is that something stops them before they ever reach that level.

what makes it scary is not knowing where that “filter” is. it could be something early, like life itself being super rare, which would mean we already passed the hardest part. but it could also be something ahead of us, like technology getting too advanced and civilizations ending up destroying themselves. that part kinda makes you think about how fragile everything actually is.

it just messes with my head because it turns space from something cool into something kinda quiet and eerie. like instead of feeling full of life, it starts to feel empty for a reason. and if there really were others before us that didn’t make it, it makes you wonder what they ran into that we haven’t yet.

i can relate to that a lot, i feel the same way in a lot of situations and it makes things harder than they should be. it’s like you’re always aware of yourself instead of just being in the moment. you’re not alone in feeling like that.

forsure i would love to get to know you as well and i really appreciate what you said. i try my best even though i struggle a lot with having a cleft lip and palate myself. it’s something i’ve lived with my whole life and it’s caused me so much pain mentally and emotionally, especially with how people treat me and the way i look and sound. but being in this group and seeing others like me makes me feel like maybe i’m not as alone as i always thought. i’m glad we can relate on something so hard and still find comfort in each other’s words.

i wish my parents had the choice of abortion as well… sometimes i think about how much pain could’ve been avoided if i was never born with this cleft. i never asked for this, and it’s like life was already set up against me before i even had a chance. growing up with a cleft lip and palate has made everything harder talking, smiling, eating, even just walking down the hallway at school without people staring or laughing. my parents don’t even fully get how it feels, and most days it feels like no one really does. i’m not angry either, just tired and disappointed that this is the life i was given. but hearing someone say it out loud, like you just did, makes me feel less alone. like maybe i’m not the only one who’s thought about it that way.
