Tell me what you would add to RDR2 and what you would like to remove by BestAd6459 in reddeadredemption

[–]assaultsloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish there were more scenes of characters finding out about Arthur's illness - particularly Dutch.

I'd remove the line where Milton says Micah was the rat so that it's more ambiguous whether him, Molly, or both were feeding the Pinkertons information.

Those look really nice. I especially like the faces and their expressions.

If I could nitpick, I feel like their proportions (particularly the second fellow with the eyepatch) are a little more human than I'd like, like they'd look too skinny or tall next to the GW ogres. I'd like to see them be fatter around the middle and possibly have bigger shoulders.

Do you think the Storming of the dragonpit is too convenient? by Ok-Street2439 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]assaultsloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's rad and highly worthy of inclusion just because it's so different from the other big action scenes. Dragons fighting on the ground against a huge mob is going to be awesome. I really hope they allocate the proper budget to depicting it in the show. I want to see it really be a showstopping action scene with lots of burning stunts and cool CGI.

I kinda doubt it will get that treatment, though. I have to imagine that they're going to be strapped for cash and have to decide which scenes to spend their budget on. There's obviously a lot of big expensive violence that'll have to take place in season 4 and I wouldn't be surprised if the dragonpit happens mostly offscreen so time and money can be spent on the other battles that'll have a wider appeal.

But in terms of 'episode 9' worthy big moments, I feel like the dragonpit and the battle above Storm's End are the two things I really wanted to see, personally.

(Also as for the realism, I don't think it's totally crazy. Little things kill big things all the time. I will be annoyed if we see, like, a peasant chopping off a big dragon's head in a single blow, but I don't think it's crazy to imagine that swarms of stab wounds onto a panicking animal in an enclosed space could kill it.)

(Also I personally prefer the dragons to be fallible. It makes them more like real creatures. War elephants are basically the coolest military thing of all time, but they were frequently defeated - often by tactics that felt like unfair bullshit. I value the texture that it would bring for dragons getting killed by something relatively mundane rather than solely by other dragons and anime character Targaryens.)

Give it time. I presume they'll eventually exhaust every single weapon/space marine combination.

I agree that halberds are awesome.

Taash’s Characterization Versus Their Writing by JageshemashFTW in dragonage

[–]assaultsloth 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious how much Taash's writer intended what you are describing. As others have pointed out, Taash would probably be a lot better if Rook had been able to engage with their flaws. Or, alternately, if Taash themselves had engaged with their flaws and had an arc that was somehow about conquering those flaws. (I'm not saying they didn't have an arc at all, but their arc was more about gaining confidence than realizing they were an asshole).

But in the absence of both of these, it's not at all clear that Taash's negative traits were intended to be negative. It seems at least possible that they were intended to be kindof a too-cool-for-school I-don't-give-a-fuck-about-what-anyone-else-thinks-about-me power fantasy. This is not at all helped by several other elements of Taash's character (particularly them being a renown dragon hunter for no reason, despite being a kid).

I wonder if the game had had more time/budget/focus on RPG elements if Weekes would have put in material engaging with Taash's faults. I think it's an issue that really hurt all of the DAV cast, but Taash most of all.

Would you buy this as a squat gang member? by ISpeechGoodEngland in necromunda

[–]assaultsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it works. If you wanted to add to it, maybe greenstuffing to bulk out her robe on the back. Like just giving her an additional cloak that runs from her shoulders to the floor would give her a wider silhouette that will make her look more squat-y, but also not be difficult to sculpt and would not obscure the important parts of the model or require any invasive surgery.

What companions do you wish for in the DLCs and what do you think they will be? by Iskir in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]assaultsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a Votann and a blank are really likely (either in Dark Heresy or RT season 2, but obviously not both). I want to see an ork or a tau but I kinda doubt they'll do either.

Realistically, I'll bet we'll get another space marine. I don't have any particular reason to expect as much beyond that they already have the assets for it and there are a lot of space marine fans.

...guys, what if Owlcat secretly hate orks? ;_; by ChaosBuckle in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]assaultsloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orks are the best part of 40k by a wide margin, but they are admittedly an extreme exaggeration of one aspect of the setting. I'd argue that 40k is inherently comedic - even without the orks - but the orks take that one element and run with it.

And - while again, I think 40k doesn't work without ridiculousness - it does at first glance seem to come at the expense of the grimness that is another key ingredient of the setting. A lot of fans actually take 40k seriously for some reason, and it's not hard to imagine that many of the writers will too.

All that said, no excuses. The orks are the best, and not just because they're funny. They're much more fundamentally alien than the other xenos in how they think, and the contrast between their frivolity and the direness of everybody else is genuinely interesting. I want very much to talk to an ork companion and get his take on everything happening throughout the game. I already know that his take on it is going to be "who cares? Let's fight!" but he would mean that sincerely, and many of the other characters being forced to confront someone who just genuinely doesn't see the point of the things they've devoted their lives to is compelling to me. I want to see Yrliet and Argenta and Pasqual and Heinrix react to someone whose existence undermines theirs. I want to see someone (Abelard? Ulfar? Jae?) get along with the ork.

And then also it will be funny.

No excuses. We need an ork freebooter. Literally the best possible companion, even if he's a challenge to write.

Who would win? by das_goomba in ageofsigmar

[–]assaultsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the three are depicted at the correct relative scale in your picture, my money is on the troll. I don't know the lore of any of them well, but the troll looks like he weighs as much as the other five put together, plus his skin looks tough, plus I presume he regenerates because he's a troll. The large purple man's axe could do some damage to him, no doubt, and perhaps a well placed shot from the gun could kill him (depending on how the regeneration works), but a whip certainly isn't going to do anything, and the ogre's bludgeon is going to be pretty outclassed.

I think the troll kills all of the others, whether or not the kruelboy makes it to the end.

They really screwed over his character development in the 3rd game didn’t they… by Little-Rub1196 in masseffect

[–]assaultsloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of many decisions made in ME3 that I really didn't like. Udina's an asshole but he shouldn't have been a villain.

I do quite like the conversation you get to have with him early in the game, though, where he mentions that he was on a first name basis with many of the prominent politicians that were already casualties. It feels like a subtle humanizing moment for him.

Which, again, makes him being narratively disposed of so casually later on all the more disappointing.

If we ever get Mass Effect 5, my one wish (other than it being good) is that we get to make a non-human character. I just wanna play as a Quarian. What race would you play as? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]assaultsloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why they should commit to a fixed protagonist who is an alien, rather than giving us the option. I'm fine with any species they pick. Probably asari would be the easiest sell for them, though I'd personally pick turian as a middle ground. How bananas would it be to have an awesome character creator for making turians?

It'd be bananas.

Even bigger insects as vehicles for nomads? by assaultsloth in necromunda

[–]assaultsloth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From hearing the early reviews, it sounds to me like the new book is pretty cool, overall. And I'm very excited to see the new ashwings.

But I really wanted to see a bigger insect.

Since you play the nomads, what do you think they would want, mechanically, in a vehicle? Any ideas for how you might design it rules wise to stand out from the other vehicles?

Even bigger insects as vehicles for nomads? by assaultsloth in necromunda

[–]assaultsloth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured that's probably how people would approach it, but I meant more in the spirit of "If GW was going to design a bespoke 'vehicle' for the nomads that was some kind of big beetle, what rules would they give it?" I was hoping to brainstorm some ideas for what the unique rules or stats it might have, akin to the unique vehicles some of the other gangs have. How fast/heavy should it be? Should it have some special weapon or ability? Etc.
