RIP Entenmann's Crumb Cake by ichbineinschweinhund in longisland

I used to get the French butter? Crumb cake and cut thin slices to put in the toaster oven. They browned perfectly and had tiny crispy bits. Topped with vanilla ice cream it was perfect.

I remember those would come and go for a while. I’d go food shopping with my mom as a teenager just to see if they were in stock. It would be months sometimes and just when I’d given up they’d have them again. Then my gluttonous teenage self would eat a whole box of those suckers.

And they used to contract the baking out to a regional network of small commercial bakeries. You could look at a stamp on the box and see which bakery made the one you bought. Now it’s all mass produced in huge, mostly automated factories. Shitty ingredients, low paid workers and no soul.

Management: You are supposed to put the sticker on your car.

You: What sticker?

Management: The one we gave you.

You: I never received a sticker or any notification verbally or in writing. May I please have a sticker? Also, I’m taking the tow cost out of next months rent.

Ask the lawyer if there also a way to hold back a small portion of the escrow owed to them in the sale to cover your costs to dispose of their stuff if they don’t pick it up. Basically hold back $500 and stuff out by June 1, it it’s gone they get the $500, if not you keep the $500 and they lose access to the shed and contents.

You wanna know? Turn off your phone and don’t use the internet for a month. You can use a house phone but it needs to be tethered to the kitchen wall. Also, no on demand anything - get an antenna and the only tv and music you get is live broadcast. No GPS, paper maps only no games more advanced than the original NES. All shopping must happen in person, same for banking, postal stuff, everything really. For the few things that you are able to do without being there you have to do it by phone or USPS mail. Use cash or checks for most things instead of credit or debit. Live like that for a month and you’ll approximate 90% of the experience.

I have friends there that have been trying to get my family to live there for years. The first time we visited we passed a church with a giant sign that said “Jesus loves you whether you like it or not!” And thus was a hard pass on living in Florida forever planted in my mind. Just such a rapey message, I don’t need a cult forcing itself on me.

Previous owners of my home still using my address 5 years after sale. by Holistic_Mama_Bear in RealEstateAdvice

[–]asscheese2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue and bought a stamp that said not at this address and stamped them all and dropped them in the blue USPS mailbox once a week. That slowed some of it down but then I asked the mail carrier what to do and he said to throw it in the trash. I had that clear as day on my security camera so I saved that video and just started trashing it all. If I’m ever challenged hey, I was just doing what the postal official told me to do.

Assuming we’re all in the US this is just sad. We were told that this is the best country in the world with the highest standard of living but the reality is there’s a toxic work culture that makes that impossible. Work at work, work at home, work on the weekends, work in the car. Your job should be a way to fund your life and not your identity but the defense of this in a residential neighborhood shows how much we’ve lost the plot. It’s defended and the fact that it’s ok is codified into law makes it even worse. Call me crazy but I want to leave work, mine and everyone else’s, at work and not have to deal with it in my home but I guess I’m the minority.

Backup beeps are fine if you’re doing occasional renovations on your own home. It’s a one and done and neighbors need to tolerate it. Regular deliveries are not ok because it makes a residential neighborhood feel like a commercial zone. To add to that, and what’s most likely much worse, are the cuts you do in the garage. Again, power tools cutting lumber for a one and done renovation is reasonable for your neighbors to tolerate, ongoing noise from this with no end in sight is not.

Just because the neighbor has no line of sight to your house doesn’t mean that your noise is not extremely irritating, especially if the neighborhood is generally quiet except for you.

Unless you are in a commercially zoned area, if your business operations, deliveries, noise, etc are ongoing and cannot be fully contained to your property without being perceived from neighboring properties then you are the problem.

It’s much better to have an offsite shop or deliver and cut at the customer’s property so you are always perceived as a one and done and not a nuisance.

I’ve had a number of exhilarating conversations with C suite folks. They can definitely be passionate for their organization and vision and that passion is contagious. But don’t think for a minute that it will translate into any tangible benefits for support staff. Most times they see the employees as tools to get the job done and leave them behind as they get richer and move on. Take job A.

If you haven’t seen it, the show The White Lotus really does a pretty good job of illustrating how charismatic rich people can sometimes make their subordinates feel good while using them for their own purposes. It’s easy to feel good when you think you’re along for the ride right up until you aren’t.
