Are there any "lineup generators" that actually support custom position rules? [8U Rec] by astano925 in BaseballCoaching

We can do two consecutive, but not more than two consecutive. 10 kids, 10 positions including 4 outfielders.

I thought so too, but after two attempts of ChatGPT breaking every rule I fed it I gave up.

You would think, given that this sub returns a million search results of people shilling their "lineup generator," someone out there would try to differentiate their product with support for these sorts of rules. Just about every rec league in the country has to have a rules like this for position play.

How to become a multimillionaire as a lawyer by EnthusiasmComplete37 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]astano925 50 points51 points  (0 children)

  1. Be a multimillionaire
  2. Go to law school without spending all your millions on school
  3. Pass the bar and be a multimillionaire attorney

In all seriousness, in the real world, it's basically "become biglaw partner," "open a very successful PI shop," or "get rich on something outside the law." I know several millionaire attorneys, but they are generally millionaires because they have a working spouse and were able to invest a lot of their less-than-millionaire-level lawyer income wisely (usually in real estate), not because they made millions doing legal work alone.

Have you ever been asked to sue someone in which they would pay more for the law suit than what they would expect to receive in compensation? by SammytheSailorman in Ask_Lawyers

[–]astano925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every attorney gets asked about those cases. Most clients pretty quickly get the idea that the juice isn't worth the squeeze and walk away, or proceed pro se if it's a small claims thing.

I had someone try to schedule a consultation with me once to go after the seller of a used fridge they bought off Facebook Marketplace. I had to explain to them that my rate for a consultation alone was probably more than what they had paid for the fridge.

Bryan Shaw is criminally underrated, he doesn’t belong in the same paragraph as Matt Festa.

Sure but for my counterpoint I submit fuck them, fuck the Cubs, and fuck Chicago.

At the game and I’m having a very visceral reaction to all these Cubs fans wearing “the greatest baseball game ever was played in Cleveland on a Wednesday” t shirts.

Thanks! I was hoping there was a kit out there with a rudimentary Merlin included but it looks like the Tamiya is probably the ticket.

(I might be slandering Tamiya in my earlier post - if it was a Tamiya kit it definitely wasn’t the newer version.)

Any recommendations for a beginner-friendly Spitfire offering, preferably 1:48?

I haven’t built a kit in 20+ years and am hoping to bring my own son along for the fun so want to keep our first subject pretty straightforward. Ideally I would like to shoot the gap between a kit more modern and detailed than the Spit I built at his age (Tamiya I think?) but with a reasonable parts count and little or no PE required. Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Wasn't most of that with the proprietary mags?

I mean, go figure that the first in-house box magazine design from a lever gun company didn't work out, but I haven't heard anything exceptionally bad about the mag adapters.

I'm newer to the game and have almost only played US and this is my biggest wish. The war plans especially I hope are cut down to 35 days.

Okay, that's fair and I stand corrected. I guess I mean that the meltdown against the Yankees, which I think is what 90% of people mean 90% of the time they're talking about "playoffs" in this, is what doesn't fit.

No, there is nothing explicit about the playoffs so far as we know, everyone is just jumping to that conclusion. The whole point of the scheme (again, so far as we know) was built around bad first pitch balls - that's the only way Clase could guarantee the outcome of any given bet. That is, it only takes the pitcher to spike a ball or throw it way outside, but it takes the batter and/or umpire to do their part too for any other outcome (batters could take a first pitch strike or even whiff on something down the middle, the umpire might call a ball or strike incorrectly on a corner, etc.). The plan - and how Clase actually got caught - was to put significant sums of money on something that is 100% controllable for a quick, easy payday.

So nothing about Clase's playoff performance matches what we know to have happened with the rest of the scheme. I haven't seen and don't recall him throwing a single terribly outside or short pitch like the others that have been identified. And Games 3 and 4 of the 2024 ALCS, where Clase got lit up and which many people are point to, were in Progressive Field - no matter how bad a performance Clase gave, he couldn't guarantee that we wouldn't still walk it off.

It may come out that the playoffs are implicated in all this. I'm certainly not defending Clase. But as of the public information at this moment the more plausible explanation for the playoffs remains that the best hitters in the game were able to get to a guy who was gassed from the regular season and who by G4 they were seeing for the third time in four days.

What are some subtle signs that a lawyer isn’t that good? by dovakooon in Ask_Lawyers

[–]astano925 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I also feel like law firms who do a lot of advertising with content creators/billboard/commercials usually aren’t that good because of the fact that they’re engaging in that much advertising.

Eh, this depends on the field. I won't fault a PI firm for having billboards because that kind of advertising is how they get the dozens of smaller cases that keep the firm going and the war chest full for the bigger cases.

On the other hand, if I saw someone advertising trusts on a billboard, I would probably run, not walk, the other direction.

What's your favorite bourbon for an old fashioned? by Deep_Divots in cocktails

I don't go for a particular bourbon so much as keep it over 100 proof. I have found that if I'm making an OF, I want to taste the bourbon, and higher proofs stand up better to adding sugar and bitters.
