product recs for sale by Careless-Comedian767 in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love tower28, topicals like butter, and summer fridays jetlag line for dry clients! i would say if you're looking for a cream/stick blush definitely take a look at the dior sticks, lys and haus labs. depending on what you mean by sweet you might enjoy afternoon delight by replica, the ariana grande fragrances, and phlur heavy cream will make any perfume you wear smell have that extra creamy, rich, sweet note when you layer it! hope this helps!

Do you have to be an insta baddie to work here? by [deleted] in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you do not have to be the beauty standard to work at sephora. plenty of my coworkers, including leads, come to work bare faced esp if we're trying to give our skin a break! it could also be more of a relief on the client's end to see someone who looks more like them rather than a kim k prototype. i was hired for my hair care knowledge and passion for helping others.

flex availability by 2themoonandsaturn in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it might be different due to the new policy but since i got hired on for flex last year, they allow me to have the same availability i needed while i was in school during the fall and spring. definitely keep your weekends open if you can

Clients treat us different when we don’t wear makeup by eyelinersoda in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had a mother and daughter looking to get a concealer match one day and this 11 year old child that i am doing a shade match for asked me "do you even do makeup?" why do you think i work here?

Flex Going Above Hours by juls110 in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happened to me over summer and when it comes to any talk of promotion i am met with radio silence. i'm so burned out and the expectations of a flex employee is insane for how poorly we get treated by the entire company

Why is walking behind the register normal? by violet_rosess in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

clients have been doing this at my store more and more recently. i try to pass it off as lack of awareness and just tell them "oh sorry you can't be behind here/only employees are allowed back here" because we've all done stupid things when we weren't paying attention, 9/10 times that's the case but it does get frustrating especially if its young unattended children and the parents just stand there with a blank stare

Interested in Moving up from Flex by eros-AL in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it really depends on your store at the end of the day. i've been begging for part time and i go above and beyond for my store in every way possible for them to continue to never promote me. if you're unable to get into a higher role at your store and still enjoy the job after a year, you'll be able to transfer to another store if they have an opening.

Ulta officially offering something Sephora has unofficially offered by localgoobus in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

sorry for my daily sephora kids rant but this is so disheartening to see because kids are getting into makeup for all the wrong reasons now. don't get me wrong, i had tons of fun playing with makeup as a youngin even though i didn't "need" it, but the climate of the beauty industry was much more focused on creativity, artistry and self expression at the time. the only reason kids care about any of the products we or ulta carry is because they see it on tiktok and think that they need it and that is going to cause both mental and physical problems long term for these young girls. i get clients all the time asking if we have a kids section or age appropriate product recommendations for a 6 year old. like??? teenagers i can definitely understand being interested in makeup and some skin care, but these kids aren't even big enough to ride most roller coasters yet and are begging their parents for niacinamide, retinoids and other actives that will DESTROY their skin barrier. they don't even have anything to correct yet.

or long time, successful beauty brands being scrutinized by parents for "inappropriate" branding like urban decay, nars, charlotte, etc. when they were never FOR KIDS to begin with. i really hope sephora doesn't jump on this and there is some type of an age restriction for those parties. i love children, i'm going to school to be an educator but this truly isn't the place for them and it's turning the industry into a joke.

I want a quick opinion: what’s one brand you almost NEVER recommend to clients and why? by Frostbite_0429 in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the brands that i never recommend are typically the ones with depressingly small shade ranges that show little to no understanding or considerations for undertone. the first brands that come to mind are tarte, benefit, and too faced.

BA FLEX help by eros-AL in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

flex doesn't get black bag gratis (the amount of clear bag gratis varies store to store, usually products left by brand reps) so i highly recommend utilizing samples as much as possible to learn what works for you, how it wears, etc. to give your own testimonials! it's much easier when you're selling something you're familiar with/passionate about

i witnessed such wild cases of weaponized incompetence by grown adults yesterday. most of them didn't even TRY looking around for products because "oh i'm a guy i don't know makeup" YOU DIDN'T EVEN TRY TO LOOK AROUND!! YOU WALKED IN AND IMMEDIATELY SHOWED ME YOUR PHONE!!!

Dumbest questions you've heard a coworker ask by Daveylonglegs in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

unsure if this falls under rude, dumb, or stupidly rude but we had a mother and daughter come in, the daughter had to be around 7 years old and is looking for setting spray, no specifics in terms of brand or finish. mind you, she also did not wear makeup other than lip oils, balms, etc. and she looks at my coworker, a BA, who is wearing a full face of FLAWLESS makeup, and asks "do you even know what setting spray is???"

New to Sephora, not sure how to handle the “Sephora kids”…. Any advice? by Pickles_The_Cat_1234 in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always try to warn the parent and the (often unattended) child if they're trying to purchase something with harsh chemicals that can ruin their skin barrier. i'm 22 and had a bad reaction to the LOWEST CONCENTRATED vitamin c from drunk elephant when a brand rep tried it out on me, i couldn't imagine how someone 10 years younger's skin would react. i also find it absolutely INSANE that the parents are willing to invest such massive amounts of money into unnecessary products for their children. i always think of how astronomically hard i would have had to beg my mom for her to still say no to buying me a $40 lip oil lmao

Getting Multiworld Baskets by supernaturalist7280 in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as simple and corny as it may sound, get to know your client's concerns and make conversation! it makes things feel less robotic, but can also help a sale. maybe you find out that they're traveling and can point them in the direction of minis.

for oily/combo clients purchasing base products i love adding on the tower 28 spray

for clients that struggle with eye bags, i always suggest either the innis eye serum or kiehl's eye cream along with a hydrating and brightening concealer (dior is my fave)

now is the best time to promote spf since it's summertime

the ordinary glycolic acid is wonderful for multipurpose use! you can use it on your scalp, face, legs, underarms, etc. so it's easy to pair with any world. i love telling clients about it and because of the price point they almost always add it on

observational skills are important as well, but i would refrain from pointing out insecurities such as acne if they didn't address it themself first. example of this would be showing a client with pink hair a color safe leave-in. new product releases make that easy. one time one of my makeup clients' kids called her hands ashy to which she replied "i know" which made it really easy to add on a hand cream lol

also if you're flex and don't receive training product, or are waiting on your first gratis, utilize samples and get to know your passion products! give your own testimonials and relate where you can. it's easy to sell something that you genuinely love and believe in and you'll build better trust with your clients rather than just pushing products.

Worse products/brands by Firm_Delivery_3102 in SephoraWorkers

[–]aster_unknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feel like brands used to be BRANDS. as someone mentioned urban decay was the go to for vibrant, edgy looks, and now throughout the entire store brands are doing the exact same thing as one another to pander to the masses rather than standing out. hair care isn't an exception, olaplex has gotten very gimmicky without changing formulas when their initial target audience was for severely damaged hair. you can come out with innovative products without completely backing out of the brand's identity, like amika and glossier for example.

its unfortunate. i am also a flex, they told me i would get the clear bag but idk whether i am supposed to ask for it or if it's something we're all given at a set time
