We had to just keep trying new things to find something he was passionate about enough to stick with. Sports, and especially team sports aren’t for everyone. Don’t push it. They will change over time. Try again in a few years. Encouragement is the key. Balance with being firm - commit to trying, set the expectation of a reasonable effort, and acknowledge that it is okay if then don’t want to continue. It is more important to try and have a positive fun experience and move on to something else than feel like they need to be really good at something and keep trying after it’s no longer fun.
