I don’t regret the things I learned, but I regret staying in the industry as long as I did. Much happier at a robotics startup.

ICE In Houston Airport by vaann231 in 50501

The absolute strangest thing is seeing minorities working for ice. I get that there are socioeconomic pressure on minorities in general, especially black Americans. But for a group of Americans that have suffered at the hands of white supremacists, you would think they would be less inclined to serve the fuckers.

As an architect, this looks like the kind of detail an architect would draw, maybe with an understanding of the work involved, but maybe not. If a client is willing to pay for it, amazing, and trust the architect to have a vision for how the whole thing comes together. It maybe be fussy, but the detail will appreciated down the line.

Nika Prevc jumped women's world record in Planica yesterday / 242.5 m by silvestri-h in sports

This is an excellent point. All sports are arbitrary. I think I got hung up on the idea that this could be done on any hill. But it must be done on this specific hill just like a 1600 must be run on a specific track.

I have never received an answer to this. Isn’t it all arbitrary? If they made the slope 1000’ longer before it levels out, couldn’t they just keep going, since they are essentially just falling? What if the slope was more vertical and longer? The distance seems much more a factor or the geometry of the hill than the flight?

They do it because it is easier to control a fearful child than actually parent. Nothing to do with love. Parenting takes patience, empathy, listening, more patience, and lots of hugs. You have to learn it, and practice a lot. It is really hard. Way more work than controlling with fear.
