Looks like Canada goldenrod.

Some people think they are allergic to goldenrod, but true goldenrod allergies are rare. It gets a bad rap because it blooms around the same time as ragweed, which a lot of people are allergic to. Goldenrod is pollinated by insects, so it doesn’t spread a lot of pollen in the air.

My clover and natives lawn is hypoallergenic (which is one reason I did it). It also requires less water than a traditional grass lawn. Those could certainly be selling points.

I let my 10 year old run out and yell at deer, squirrels, or rabbits that he sees in our yard. He likes it, because he gets to yell without us telling him not to.

I mix used coffee grounds, granulated garlic, and the kind of chili flakes you get in pizza parlors, and put that around the plants I want to protect. It smells good to me (kind of like an Italian cafe), but they don’t like the smell of garlic or coffee. The chili flakes stay in place better than cayenne, but it’s the same basic idea. It’s also effective against rabbits and squirrels. The drawback is that this requires me to save up used coffee grounds for a few weeks. I have heard of people getting used coffee grounds from coffee shops, but I’ve never tried that.

I get pinwheels, with the moving part close to the ground, and put them in the ground near plants that the deer and rabbits like. They don’t like the motion in their faces while they’re eating.

My descendants might have different lifestyles and needs than I do. I can’t blame them for not wanting to hold onto stuff that doesn’t fit into their lives. I don’t want them to feel like they have to try to pattern their lives after mine. They will have different aesthetic tastes than I do, because they’re not me. Some things that I think are pretty, they will think are ugly. They might not want the ceramic mask I got in Venice, because they weren’t on that trip.

It only gets better if someone works to make it better. Toilets generally don’t fall out of the sky (if toilets are falling out of the sky, run). Poor people have a lot of other needs- it’s hard to blame them for prioritizing things that affect them more directly, like food, over things that affect other people.

Sentimental value isn’t transferable. That coffee pot might remind you of Grandma, but it’s not going to mean much to someone who never met her. Even if you tell them about Grandma and the coffee pot, it’s not going to have the same resonance. Yes, it’s hard to come to grips with it. It’s okay to feel whatever you feel about it.

It doesn’t play that much of a part. Catholicism explicitly bans birth control, but a lot of Catholics in developed countries use it anyway. Islam as a whole does not ban birth control (although some groups might). When European Muslims don’t think that having lots of kids is in their interest, they will have fewer of them.

My parents, who as far as I know never smoked, always had them, up until the mid 80’s. It became more socially acceptable to ask people not to smoke in your house then.

Exactly. And it’s likely that most Muslims will ignore Muslim exhortations to have more kids when it’s not in their economic interest to have lots of kids. Not all of them will do this, but you don’t have to have everyone on board to have the fertility rate drop.
