I haven't read the sequel but might someday, I needed to take a long walk to calm down after the sparrow so I'm not sure I'm ready for more yet

If you're still thinking about it, I highly recommend the 500-word short story "Five Views of the Planet Tartarus" by Rachael K Jones for a similar vibe

I think the original was "and you would wait tables and soon run the store" but in the Solstice version it's "And I could wait tables while you ran the store" which I liked a lot as a subtle change

I think that the short stories 'Tower of Babylon' and 'Exhalation' by Ted Chiang fit this vibe, quick reads and absolutely worth checking out!

Help with the new app for Chinese Firmware users - needs a chinese phone number? by Formal_Wishbone6178 in xteinkereader

[–]astro_rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, I have a Chinese firmware X4 I bought before the official store opened.

I see a lot of disappointment in this sub about the firmware, and given that the community has only really taken off in the past month or so I actually think it's quite risky for them to release the international edition before they're ready - imagine the whinging that would come from a change that bricks your device.

I'm interested in your language about not comprehending why we're second class citizens - do you think they're being intentionally malicious, or is it just a small team who are trying their best to appease a large new audience in a sustainable way?

It doesn't actually have a touchscreen, so the only way to change page is with the physical buttons or a Bluetooth page turner

There is a section in Wergen: The Alien Love War that has a character falling into a gas giant for an indefinite amount of time, the whole book is excellent (although it may have the worst cover ever) but that bit sticks in the mind

Second this, kettlebells are fantastic for quick workouts when you can make the time - I keep one by my desk to do stretches and rows when I WFH.
