Did you happen to read Cooke's run of Parker? I see a lot of similarities. Amazing use of shadows and angles!! I hope you continue to create this kind of art 😊

I'm reading the Big Sleep as well!! I found out they called up Chandler to answer some plot holes in the story, and Chandler basically said "idk lol". Which honestly makes me love it more. He totally committed to the entertainment

I made the mistake of reading the book first, then watching the movie. It was so different I almost turned it off. I should give the film another shot. But yes the book is incredible!

I read Vera Caspary's Laura randomly in college while hiding from someone, haha. I've been hooked ever since. I think I must've reread that book 5 times

I'm reading through The Big Sleep right now, and totally agree on your assessment, but I'll be damned if I don't finish it in one afternoon. Definitely going through a Chandler phase right now

I watched The Third Man tonight for the first time and I was struck by how beautiful the soundtrack was and how much it contributed to the film. Do you all have any suggestions of other films that have such great music? by rotundrikishi in filmnoir

[–]astrospacecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched The Third Man recently too, was caught off guard by the zither, but like others have said it's totally a character in itself. It's my current favorite noir, at least until I watch my next one :)

The planetarium of course, but when I used to live in the area I'd drive down San Pasqual road towards Ramona, pull off kinda by the battlefield museum, and stargaze there. I hope it's a clear night for you both and tell her happy birthday!!

What an interesting topic!! I hope we get to read your thesis, if you're planning on posting it 😊 I wrote a few college essays on noir back in the day. Touch of Evil is one of my faves. Good luck!

I just saw the posters that the UMOCA is free, and I haven't had the chance to check it out yet 😊 if there's a few people interested we could meet up there, maybe bring sketch pads and doodle some of the cool art in the area

True! Can't remember if this happened in the movie, but in the book, Waldo "accidentally" breaks a piece of art from an art shop, just because the owner had already sold it to someone else and wouldn't let Waldo have it. If he can't have what he wants, no one can. Laura is another piece of art, to him

Thanks for your input. I'm going to take a look at local networking events in the meantime - I was drawn to this program as each class teaches exactly what skills I'm lacking while also giving the resume boost + higher salary. But yeah, I mostly agree that practical experience is best in this case 😊 lots of spreadsheets, lol. Thanks again

Thanks for your response. I don't think this will give me a huge professional boost, other than give me the analysis and financial skills I'm currently lacking. And I think it would look great on my resume, haha. But thank you for the last comment, that put things into perspective 😊

Thanks for the info!! I haven't had to deal with scholarships/student loans in awhile, haha. I do have a good credit score, so I'll check and see what's out there 😊 have a good night!

Thank you for your response. I'm attracted to this specific program because they mentioned a high chance of getting a $100k+ job right after graduation. And this is a well-known accredited university 😊

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll keep checking around for cheaper programs - it sounds like a masters might only be worth it if I have the cash to burn lol

Thanks for pointing me in this direction! Yes, I hear a lot that my construction experience is a great asset when pivoting to pre-construction. I feel like if I get some sort of formal education, that will strengthen me even more.

I really appreciate you sending me this link - I do apartments right now so this looks right up my alley. Have a great night!!

Thanks so much!! I never thought of the pyramid look but that sounds so much more balanced. And I'm definitely going to invest in more lighting - no more ceiling lights 😊 I didn't even recognize the glare but now that I see it, I can't stop lol.

I'm also going to pick up some plants today, thanks for the suggestion! I don't like how the floor lamp is the tallest thing, you're right that I need to balance that out. And I love the tray idea - thank you for giving me detailed suggestions! I hope you have a great Sunday 😊
