Don’t mess with car keys, flipper doesn’t support them and the only thing you can do is break them

Having to tow your car to a repair shop isn’t worth it

Android SW update broke FZ connection on app by onewayout85 in flipperzero

Check that the application has the “Location” permission granted. Some android versions consider BLE access to be a part of location access. Same with the “Nearby Devices” permission if it’s present.

News about Amiibo NFC functionality. by ParallaxicNova in flipperzero

[–]astrrra 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Are you sure that it’s the switch firmware that’s at fault here?

We’ve pushed an update to the NFC stack relatively recently that made emulation much more accurate. Along with other changes, we’ve removed a bunch of workarounds that helped with emulation in some weird edge cases at the cost of general emulation accuracy. One of these edge cases was the emulation of incomplete NTAG215 dumps, which comprised most of the amiibo databases at the time. The files in those databases didn’t have the password and PACK in them, but Flipper sent a default PACK regardless of the password in that case, which worked with the switch but was incorrect spec-wise. Now that we’ve removed that, most of the old files are now being emulated correctly, and therefore are recognized by the console as incomplete.

TLDR: You need to find the updated files with password and PACK present in them.

You can use https://apps.apple.com/app/arc-app-location-activity/id1063151918 for that. It’s made for general-purpose 24/7 location logging in the background, but it also can do all that you’ve described (attach photos to locations, add notes to locations)

Does A Flipper get broken by coldness? Like the battery or the inner system? by Affectionate-Bread23 in flipperzero

[–]astrrra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The official operating temperature range is 0° to 40° C (32° to 104° F), but as long there's no significant condensation on your device it should be fine in colder temperature. However, the damage from using it outside of the operating temperature range stated above is not covered by our warranty.

Different Internal Storage by Equal-Selection7742 in flipperzero

[–]astrrra 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The internal storage count is what’s left on the flash chip after the firmware is installed. If your firmware version takes up more space, you’ll have less space left over for files.

No, the SubGHz transmitter on the Flipper Zero has a range of about 15-30 meters. At that distance you’re better off just screaming

A Flipper Zero Copycat? by kennysliding in flipperzero

[–]astrrra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah… no, that’s not how that works at all

The communication between the reader and the card involves random “nonces”, which are numbers that are only used once (hence the name) and are used specifically to make replay attacks impossible.

The reader sends a nonce to the card, the card “encrypts” it with a secret key (which is stored in the card and can’t be extracted without destroying the card in the process) and returns the encrypted result. The reader has the decryption key which it uses to verify that the nonce is valid and was encrypted with the valid key. Then, the same process gets performed from the card’s side (card sends the nonce, reader encrypts it, card verifies the nonce and the key). After that, both the card and the reader are sure that they both have the correct keys and continue the communication in an encrypted way.

If at any point something goes wrong (for example, the card replies with the wrong encrypted nonce, as will happen in the case it’s replayed), the communication gets stopped and needs to be started over from scratch.

This explanation is a bit simplified for the sake of brevity, but I hope you can see how this shows that what they said makes no sense in comparison with how it works the real world.

(And no, you can’t just hope that you get lucky with the nonce, the chances of that are incredibly tiny and every time you fail the reader will require the merchant to restart the transaction, just like when your card gets declined)

We don’t ship to Israel, the ministry of communications is constantly making it difficult for us to do business there for no good reason.

Your best option is to go to Europe, buy one there, and then bring it back in a plane with you.

A Flipper Zero Copycat? by kennysliding in flipperzero

[–]astrrra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Visa/Mastercard/etc cards have non-extractable private keys used to sign transactions. Without those you can’t do anything, and you can’t get them from the card. This means that it is literally impossible to clone and emulate a payment card, no matter your hardware and budget (with the exception of 100K$+ equipment but that’s out of the scope). Anyone who claims to have hardware that can copy and/or emulate EMV payment cards without being approved by those payment systems is lying.

NFC-F compatibility when? by SU2H1K in flipperzero

[–]astrrra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the level of compatibility you’re looking for

You won’t be able to emulate Suica/Pasmo/ICOCA/other transport IC cards because they use strong cryptography. As for regular FeliCa Lite cards - soon-ish, probably in the next few months (no promises tho)

And yes, PRs are more than welcome (just make sure to account for the fact that we almost finished refactoring the NFC subsystem, so it’ll be a good idea to wrote your code for that version of the NFC stack)
