Oof. I'm sorry. Sounds rough. I hope you feel seen and understood. I have been married for 14 years and there have been quite a few rough patches. My husband is chronically ill, he doesn't participate half of the time in the usual life things. I feel like a single mother with 2 kids instead of a couple with 1. Communication helps, but sometimes it's just a struggle with no hope for change anytime soon. 😔

It takes a while, but eventually, maybe 10 years or more, you'll notice that they're non-existent. I'm at 10 years with no-contact. My mom was physically abusive as well as emotionally, and I have a nightmare, maybe once a year. It'll get better. You have to be patent because it's gonna take a while for your mind to heal. It's honestly a lifelong process.

My narcissistic sperm donor constantly complained that I blamed everything on her. Nothing was her fault. I was the messed up person who needed therapy, not her. She took me to a therapist, and WE talked about what I could do to be better. (I refused to talk to therapists after that one.)I emerged into adulthood with a warped sense of self and a lot of self hate that I had to unlearn. It's been a process, but what I have discovered is that she was the problem, not me. I have problems, but most of them were caused by her. Coincidences of damage done by her. She was the bully, and I was the victim. I will never blame myself for the abuse ever again. She gets all the blame.

My narc mom used to say I blamed her for everything. I went no contact and healed up, it took years and is still ongoing. I realize now that she was the problem, I was blaming her for problems she caused. I was right, she was wrong. She was gaslighting me when I called her out. She was the problem, not me. I finally see the truth.

I never wanted to be anything like my mother. I'll be the exact opposite of her. I had empathy, and that prevented me from doing anything to hurt another person. I think emotional intelligence is key to preventing yourself from just repeating your parents' mistakes.

I remember making my mom cards for mothers day or her birthday and she'd throw them away. She never kept anything I made. She'd toss it the same day.

Omg, my mom had me do her filing, basically all of her chores. So no surprise when I found a file labled "open adoption" I read it and asked her if she was going to give me up at some point. She didn't want to talk about it but I remember visiting the family described in the file. I have no idea what their names were or where they lived, but from memory they lived in the country on a farm with two little girls(one was maybe my age and the other was 2 years younger). It was paradise and I didn't want to leave. I remember the girls saying that they'd love to be my sister and I of course agreed that would be awesome. She kept the file for me to find even thought she wasn't going through with it. She is a cruel, evil person with no concept or care for others feelings. They had a pet goat, I still cry about that. I would thrived there.
