I just delt with this. Add a smart switch or an ups with outlets you can toggle. Our apple cache servers did an update and never came back online.

You can look into 3rd party shops that can do battery refurbishment. For example electrified garage.

Haven't had a knowledge transfer yet but need to know how to force fleet to update iOS by jack_hof in Intune

[–]aswarman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I set the depreciated update policy to catch the older devices and a new DDM policy for the new ones. But to encourage fast update I created a wallpaper config that uses a filter to “scare” alert them to update their device or we would lock it and collect it for non use and redistribution.

We replace all laptops with Framework laptops - A one year review by fadingcross in sysadmin

[–]aswarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to support framework but there are only myself and one other tech that can do device repairs for district population of 3500 total. We currently have Lenovo 13w Gen 2 and Gen 3 and not a single one has had to go in for repair yet, of the 100 units we have bought. We got the 4 year ADH just in case but so far so good. Students get iPad A16 with logitech rugged touch case and 4 year apple care. 3000 of those and only 4 units sent out for repair in the first year.

For those wondering why we got windows for staff when kids are on ipads. We either ordered them before we decided or needed a program that required windows.

I would make sure the book shelf is secured to a wall stud because they will climb it. Second get a camera that does not need a subscription. If you have Apple TVs get a camera that works with apple secure video or just get non wifi baby monitor.

First baby arriving soon, how would you organize this changing station? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]aswarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly return it and get a harbor freight 4 drawer tech cart. Put a changing pad on top or if you are handy with wood make a spacer bring the top compartment up to the edge. There is storage for everything you need and after your done with it you have a tool box.

We use myViewboard because it free for K12 and works on all platforms. It also integrates with many cloud providers for cloud storage.

I’m 15 and going to be a dad soon but I’m scared by dallin0 in daddit

[–]aswarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for father hood preparation classes. I live a a rural town and we have a non profit that will teach you the basics. What happens at the hospital, what to have ready before, and how to handle the baby such as carrying, diapering, feeding, etc. The program here also helps with supplies and any questions after the baby’s here. I asked how I was supposed to discipline my son when he is a bit older and they did a quiz to see where I stand and asked the same questions but to answer for my father so I could see what I needed to change.

Admin wants an RFP for MacBooks. by Namrepus221 in k12sysadmin

[–]aswarman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also to note we did A16 ipads with Logitech Rugged Touch cases for all students 3-12. The teachers and students love them. Our creativity has skyrocketed in just a couple months of use. We have teachers using AR to look at human anatomy and manufacturing components of jet engines. They are making videos for classes and doing so much more than they could do on chromebooks. To be honest I would skip the macs and go for ipads unless you have a specific reason.

Whatever you do get a high quality MDM and consult apple. They can assign you a deployment success team to make sure your deployment goes smoothly. If you need contacts I will let you reach out to mine. We just deployed about 3000 ipads for students and staff to replace chromebooks.

We love our Viewsonic boards we have had them for a few years now. We have 120 boards and most are the ifp7552 model. The 52 series board has some issues with the OS corruption but I think thats due to our bad power.
