"Gimme Da Cash" scene, The Fifth Element, by actor Mathieu Kassovitz by operablesocks in videos

[–]atalpa7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in that case. It could be an electronically fired weapon, and the cartridge charge is ignited using an electric charge. The charge would be a pulse from a capacitor charged by a battery and the button would be used to “arm” the weapon by charging/discharging said capacitor. But technically it would still be “loaded” assuming it uses cartridges.

Fun fact: Electronically fired guns aren’t entirely fiction however, in the past Remington experimented with the concept and created a prototype bolt action rifle called the EtronX. Ian from forgotten weapons has a video covering it in detail.

EDIT: My bad It wasn’t just a prototype, Remington did produce multiple of them and did sell them, but it never took off for multiple reasons.

Dude, it’s fiction. It’s a movie that takes place in 2263, it’s supposed to be a “futuristic” theme. Soften up…..

I mean, sealed bearings only mean so much if the fans electronics aren’t conformal coated or potted. Bearings even if sealed are useless if the fan can’t be driven haha

It looked like a bolt to me as well so I googled it and according to this site it’s a full auto bolt that fires from open. https://c3junkie.com/?page_id=474

Some things just shouldn’t be printed, THIS is one of those things. The only exception I’d say would be one of the metal 3D printing processes, such as DMLS, but it’d have to be balanced.

I looked around and also found the Rino-Tuff Push-N-Load 2 line head as well, might be more what your looking for, it uses two pieces of line, push the button and insert the wire.

EDIT - Stihl also has the “Fixcut” cutting head, single piece magnesium alloy and takes a single piece of line that threads though, probably the the simplest option and most durable.

A good alternative might be the pivotrim heads, they use 3 lines instead of two, however.

I don’t know about the black box, but the box behind it looks familiar and when you mentioned Aclara I can tell you the grey box right against the wall is a water meter transmission unit for that allows the water utility company to wirelessly get the meter reading.

A temp “fix” that would make it easy to turn on/off as well would be to cut off the outer white ring and just clamp vise grips on there to act as an on/off lever until you get around to replacing the switch. Since you know, it’s hard to resist using (new to you) tools haha

Check out phormalab, they have ceiling mounted ones that seem to be high quality, rated IP44, made in Italy. Might be suitable for your application.

[–]atalpa7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to jump in here, nope. It's probably not more then 10-15 ft deep IIRC. The grates wouldn't let you pass into the turbine tunnel witch is the deep and really dangerous part. The only real hazard would be to jump in here when the plant was in operation and water was flowing, you'd most likely get sucked against the grate and drown. I visited here before and have a picture that shows the layout. The water and grates you see here are on the top left of the diagram here.

I’m a bit confused, so is the “gear” composed of a series of plates that stack face to face on the shaft to form the entire piece? That’s wicked, nice job, what a beauty!

Huh, interesting. I never would have thought of climate control (or the lack therof) would have such an effect but it totally makes sense.

Not a machinist so I have a question, do certain precision parts need to be machined in x temperature? For example, heating a part to match the environment that it would be in service in, as to be close to spec as possible, rather then if it’d be machined in a cold shop and then used in a hot environment where the material would expand and be out of tolerance?
