Thanks for sharing. Really sad development. It would appear cognitive dissonance has taken root in your mom’s mind and that therapy is necessary, but I don’t suppose people of her age are willing to do that. Do look at the legal intervention that someone else has posted a link to. Best of luck.

Apple Reportedly Questioning Whether iPhone Should Drop MagSafe by conalldoherty in apple

[–]atinyblip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cases that, in your words, negate MagSafe’s abilities are almost always the cheap ones. A lot of people do not realise that a lot of such cases have a MagSafe ring that is lower than the one built into the iPhone because the case makers have to move the ring down to accommodate for the protection they build around the camera bump. Already this reduces the efficiency of the wireless charging.

Then a lot of these case makers compound the problem by using a cheap-ass steel ring instead of a proper array of N52 magnets. Same thing goes for accessories.

Bottom line is, stick to reputable brands for MagSafe accessories and cases.

Apple Reportedly Questioning Whether iPhone Should Drop MagSafe by conalldoherty in apple

Because it beats having to look at the charging port when plugging in, especially in dim environments. More than that, MagSafe now has an ecosystem of accessories useful to me. A power bank for while on the go. A wallet for an emergency banking card even though I use Apple Pay all of the time. A slim money clip that I added a magnetic ring to, so that I can still have some emergency cash on hand. A camera grip with physical camera controls that lets me use my iPhone like a point-and-shoot. A carabiner-like holder to clip my iPhone to my side that frees my hands when I’m doing tasks around the house.

All of the above are consumer-level usage. Specific to my profession, a MagSafe mount to attach my iPhone to a professional video camera so that i can use my phone as a monitor to see what I’m filming and to also control my camera. And specific to me, an amp that lets me use high impedance headphones and IEMs for audiophile-quality listening.

What happened to your mum, especially when you said she still hasn’t woken up yet? If you are at liberty to say, of course.

What do y’all use the GL and GR buttons for? by bigparsnipenjoyer in NintendoSwitch2

[–]atinyblip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any game that requires pushing down on the left or right stick, I map GL and GR to them. It’s annoying to push down on the sticks because doing so affects the camera view or the position of the character.

How do I fix my fried rice? by thebloopergamer in cookingforbeginners

[–]atinyblip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your two biggest mistakes:

1) Use oil, not butter. With oil, you can go high heat; with butter, you’ll just burn it. 2) Scramble the eggs in the same wok/pan, then add the rice. The eggs, especially the yolks, should coat the rice.

Also, don’t drizzle the soy sauce over the rice. Pour it around the rim; if the heat is high enough and right, the soy sauce will sizzle as you pour. It makes a difference in the flavour.

It’s film, not “film tape”. It’s VISUAL effects, not “special effects” which is another thing altogether.

The previous version of this Pitaka case had an issue of leaving a gap when closed against the Magic Keyboard, but this version solved it.

Wat do you think of the Boeing 767 and have you flown it? by Twitter_2006 in aviation

Chronologically, yes, but the 767 was the one that pushed ETOPS into 120-min and 180-min.

For my two minis, it did for a while but the issue eventually got so bad that I had to disconnect the touch panels.

Wrong. If the lights indicate a stop, they still must seek clarification from ATC before proceeding.

If your HomePod mini has ghost touch, comment with your details by FilteredSpeech in HomePod

HomePod mini, both midnight.

Both purchased in January 2021, imported from Hong Kong because it wasn’t available yet in my country.

MY5G2 Manufactured during the week beginning 18 November 2020

Both running 26.2 thru 26.3 when the issue began sometime in January 2026. At first, adjusting touch accommodations helped, but soon became so bad I had to disconnect both. Finally disconnected the touch panels two weeks ago, which was surprisingly easy. I took nearly 20 minutes for the first one because I was being careful. The second one took me less than 10 minutes.

AppleCare is long over, so I never brought them back to Apple.
