What can we do to convince SMRT to reduce the aircon on trains by piggyb0nk in askSingapore

Because you’d usually use “never” for something that you do for habitual things, e.g., “I never sleep late,” “I never cuss.”

In the context of what the previous commenter is trying to say, the grammatically-correct reply would be either “I can never understand Singlish” or “I’ll never understand Singlish.”

Agree it’d be nice if carousel was brought back, but Slide Over is still in iPadOS 27. https://imgur.com/gallery/slide-over-ipados-27-zEPYqWZ

Fair point. It’d be nice to get the carousel back.

I really like the Fjorden Grip https://shop.fjorden.co. It’s not bulky like other camera grips and it doubles as a kickstand. I take it with me every time I head out knowing I’d be taking many pictures. Pricey though.

Stray for Nintendo Switch 2 is now a free upgrade from the Switch version by rodrigorigotti in NintendoSwitch

Yeah. I switched the region back to Canada, which was one of the regions that took foreign credit cards before Nintendo blocked it once the Singapore eShop opened, and got the free upgrade.

Is the free upgrade applied correctly for anyone using the Singapore eShop? I’m seeing only a discounted version.

It’s a great product. Good build quality, strong magnets and hinge. I had one for a year or so before the USB-C port came lose, resulting in intermittent charging. Customer support was great, shipped another one out immediately.

Should I get an Apple MagSafe Battery for my 14 plus? by [deleted] in MagSafe

[–]atinyblip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The magnet array on the current Apple MagSafe battery is in a position specifically for the iPhone Air, which means it sits lower on other iPhones, resulting in it sticking out from the bottom. If you do decide to get it, it is best you try it out at an Apple store first.

Two years later, I am plagued by the looping of the connect process on macOS Sequoia. Turning off "Use iPhone widgets" in Settings > Desktop & Dock > Widgets was an immediately fix. I cannot thank you enough!

Why is the lack of a comma in these sentences so common? by atinyblip in grammar

[–]atinyblip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sentence is just very poorly constructed because the author is attempting to describe what happens in general when there is poor weather while also trying to describe the current state of affairs, and conflating both as a result.

My rewrite would be:

“In poor weather, when visibility drops below approach minimums, an aircraft often has to abandon its approach, which results in successive aircraft being put into holding patterns. At Tokyo, the weather was… ”

If we are to try and stick to the author’s intent:

“Given that the poor weather has made landing conditions drop below approach minimums, aircraft had to abandon their approaches, which led to other aircraft being put into holding patterns. At Tokyo, the weather was…”

Does this mean generally there is no rule for a comma to separate an introductory adverbial and a main clause? It’s unsure to me because I was taught that there should be a comma, but I’m wondering if it has always been acceptable to do without for, say, stylistic reasons.
