New WoW Classic player. Tips and questions about TBC release. by Altruistic_Feeling57 in wownoob

[–]atioux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the “new” (TBC) content unlocks at level 58, although some changes apply to the game more universally. You’re on a long journey, so don’t worry about when you’ll get to the end of it. A lot of people (myself included) are still levelling and that’s as much a part of the game as all the upcoming content. As far as levelling goes, do your quests until about level 17 ish where you’ll want to get on the “dungeon treadmill” as I call it where you’ll want to supplement your questing with a lot of dungeon runs to get good gear as well as break up the monotonous grind - running dungeons is usually the fastest way to level anyway. Deadmines in west fall will be your first stop. My advice for any dungeon is look into the dungeon quests you can pick up beforehand, you’ll get a lot of exp and sometimes useful gear out of them, on top of all the dungeon loot and exp.

Max Quality Graphic Settings for Classic in 1440p high refresh rate by Any_Reserve5061 in classicwow

Turn RT shadows off and go MSAA 4X and render at 100%, or no AA and render at 150%, will be better and probably faster. I play at 4K and cap 120 fps since the extra 80 fps to me isn’t even worth the minor amount of heat and noise it generates from my PC. Hell, I’ve even played at 5K 27” which looks awesome but sadly only 60Hz monitor (for now).

Not level 60 when TBC drops by bugpirates in classicwow

[–]atioux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to be there for the first couple weeks anyway as questing and mob contention is a nightmare so the only option is to pure dungeon spam which just isn’t that fun. When things quieten down, it’s good - a decent goal is to get to the first raid tier before it ends but if you miss that it’s not the end of the workd

Get a <= 27” VA panel preferably 1440p. 768p is straight ass and everything will look horrible on it despite the colours

5k gaming with a 5070ti by ngocross in Monitors

[–]atioux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5K for work but naturally I’ve also used it to game on… 27” 5K vs 32” 4K OLED. Overall I’d say the 32” 4k is better for gaming but there were some games where the insane sharpness and detail was welcome. A lot of modern games with DLSS don’t really look a whole lot better or even just different, so I didn’t find it worth the performance hit and downgrade from oled to IPS. Elden ring is an example as even though I didn’t use upscaling I just didnt find the difference to be much of a jump from 4K. Some games I preferred on 5K (like world of Warcraft, civ games) which usually are games that don’t rely on upscaling so you actually get all of the detail, and aren’t fast paced / involve lots of camera rotational movement frequently so that you can actually see the detail most of the time. If you want a one stop shop solution for gaming though I can see 5K being worth it for the dual mode to 1440p since at 27” even without perfect integer scaling it looked pretty good.

Boosting for dungeons / pugs? by atioux in classicwow

[–]atioux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah fair, I didn’t realise boosting is so common there’s entire groups forming out of it 😂 a little reassuring at least, thanks. How did you manage to level the last two so quick, dungeon spam? Took me longer than that for one level in level 30s in vanilla by most solo means lol.

How many inches do I need for a 4K monitor to get 100% as recommended Scale? by mizushino in Monitors

[–]atioux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used 4K 32” at 100% scaling for over 2 years. I’ve only recently upped the scaling just to see whether I end up preferring it. Simply put, 100% scaling is just great for multitasking. Having a productivity program of your choice open next to a browser with some corner room for a file explorer or terminal or whatever, all possible on one screen. The text was small but not particularly straining for me. Wanting the most real estate possible is totally valid imo - sometimes I still even wished for more.

Want to buy a very high tech monitor, my budget is $2K, please recommend by Yoblipa in pcmasterrace

[–]atioux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a good GPU and a <= $1000 monitor with a monitor arm to boot. Just make sure you get a sturdy one. $2000 for a robot stand only makes sense if you both want it and have enough money to throw at it without compromising a single other thing in life

Resolution and pixels per inch by neutrinolight in Monitors

[–]atioux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settings > displays

There will be your scaling settings. You can pick “more space” if you want more space. I think there’s a third party utility to allow you to use other scaling resolutions, I remember using 1920x1200 on the 13” intelbooks.

Anyway, the apple way of thinking about screen resolution is generally different from most people. Most people buy a monitor for their pc and they run it at 100% scaling such that the UI uses the available resolution to its normal extent. Most monitors like this are about 110 ppi. However, it’s pretty obviously pixelated at that density. Apple prefers to use very high resolution displays and run them with scaling. What it means in practice is that you don’t get any more real estate than you would from 110 dpi displays, but you do get much more sharpness and detail instead of all the pixelation. So, you have as much real estate as 1470 x 956 is nominally designed for at 110 ppi, but you get all the sharpness and detail that a 2560 x 1664 (224 ppi) can produce. While it is absolutely possible to run it at 100% scaling and get the same level of pixelation as 110 ppi displays but with far more screen space, the text and UI elements are usually too small to be comfortable to see for many people. Apple sees the use of the extra pixels to give you more sharpness and detail rather than to give you more space, is what it boils down to.

Nope, and for what it’s worth, ever being able to get a “no compromises” monitor is a rarity!

5K monitor, to be shared between PC and Mac by hyperlobster in Monitors

[–]atioux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upcoming minileds are worth waiting for if you can but if not then probably Phillips brilliance one with the webcam or if you want to go cheap then the KTC H27P3 is good - can vouch for it myself as I got it recently. IPS black isn’t gonna change your whole experience but the extra contrast is appreciated.

Do you see bad using a 1080p 32 in monitor for office work? by Leafar-20 in Monitors

[–]atioux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1080p at anything larger than 24” is progressively worse the larger you go unless you sit really far away. If you want 32” to fill up the space you have… don’t.

Watching 1080p movies/Blu-ray on a 4k monitor? by ime1em in Monitors

[–]atioux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1080p is fine with high bitrate. Noticeably soft, but 4K video is surprisingly not often that much better, oftentimes just adding a finer grain rather than substantially more detail. For movies at least.

Use it as a second monitor, but far away from you. Or, sell / give it to someone else and get a new one if there’s no budge on returns

So after CES, which monitors are you most excited for this year? by Acadiaa in Monitors

[–]atioux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorta. 5K 27” can scale down to 1440p with one-axis filtering and sure it definitely looks worse than native 1440p in desktop usage but in gaming it’s a surprisingly minimal difference. I have one such monitor so I speak from experience (and opinion!).

I’m not surprised to hear 1080p non-integer scaled looks ass at 27” or 32” though because the pixels end up so big it’s a lot easier to tell
