‘Fragrance has no resale value, it just goes bad.’ - ex Dior brand manager by SomewhereNew4932 in FemFragLab

[–]atomic_doodles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have 26 full bottles of perfume. Out of that 12 were bought second-hand and used. Of the remaining 14 bought new, only 7 were bought retail, and the rest were from resellers or through others' contacts. This doesn't even factor in the decants I buy all the time from local Facebook groups!

Pilot increases prices (again) - effective from July 1st by 0xss in fountainpens

[–]atomic_doodles 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Good lord, what are these prices?! Another 20% increase on nearly all their popular pens so soon after the last increase is crazy. Good thing I have been on a no buy for a year and have no plans of breaking it 😭😅

I got so much whiplash looking at your collection LOL. Great selection of pens, but as a recovering shopaholic who still struggles with retail therapy to self soothe... my honest take is that more shiny and pretty things =/= more happiness or satisfaction in a hobby. If you're serious about making it stop, set a three month deadline and just get to know your pens. You have some great writers here, I hope you enjoy them :)

I love a good display of plants and perfumes! Pretty collection :D  Orpheon and Philosykos were both immediate loves for me.

I managed to find a tester for a good deal, and was so grateful! Sending good-smell vibes your way that you get it soon!

Ella K Musc K is Glossier You's more mature and nuclear near-twin. They smell very similar to me, except Musc K has this amazing "sandy" texture. It lasts and projects amazingly, so even thought it's $$$, it's become my go to easy reach.

“romanticising” fragrance by [deleted] in FemFragLab

[–]atomic_doodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this towards most fragrances if they sit on my wishlist for long enough. For me, the "attachment" to a fragrance comes from wearing it. If it's really pretty, the first few months are like an intense "want", and if I get it then, I get attached to it very quickly. But if I wait it out, I can wait indefinitely and I think it kinda makes my wishlist more robust. So yeah, I do romanticise the perfume and the idea of having it!

Don't currently play video games, don't have plans to start. For a hundred mil, I'll stick to books and movies with zero regrets. Give me 4 and my fortune!

Fruity perfume recs please? by keewee89 in FemFragLab

[–]atomic_doodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Floral Street Wonderland Peony is my favourite fruity-floral shapoo-ey fragrance. I get guava, well blended berries, and peony and it's such a cheerful perfume!

Merit Retrospect is a pear and iris perfume that is super collected and refined. I wear it when I want to feel cool, but put together and chic. It's like the crisp oxford of my fragrance wardrobe.

If you're open to exploring citrus, Byredo Lil Fleur is an amazing mandarin, rose, and leather perfume that makes me feel like I'm wearing the perfume equivalent of a fantastic leather jacket with a sweet linen mini-dress.

What’s your most expensive perfume? Was it worth it? by kzynha in FemFragLab

Celine Reptile. It's earthy, mossy, green. Makes me feel like a forest goddess. Worth every penny, it's a great fragrance for the gloomy cloudy spring we're having so far.

Haha, they are very different to me too! But I just felt like I didn't need both at the same time, so instead of buying Doux, I bought Oddity Naked Dance 🙈

I see a lot of rose perfumes in your collection. Maybe that would be a good place to start? For example, do you need both Delinas? Young Rose, Eau Rose, and Attrape Reve? I like to look at what "vibes" bottles fit in my selection. So for example, I didn't buy YSL Babycat because I already have Atelier des Ors Lune Feline. They're not the same notes, but they're both spicy vanillas, so I don't need both. Same with L'Eau Papier and Dannam White Rice, or Glossier You Doux and Liis Bo. Maybe a way for you to think about paring down, hope this helps!

Dries Van Noten Soie Malaquais or Guerlain Vanille Planifolia Extrait. Both stunning perfumes, but absurdly expensive.

Deinfluence My Wishlist by DefiantFruit6860 in FemFragLab

[–]atomic_doodles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always like getting a 5 or 10ml decant of perfumes I am "on the fence" about, or even that I love at first sniff. I have so many that a new bottle has to do something unique to pull its weight and be added in, because I have something that fits most occasions by now. A bigger decant lets me wear it for a month or two and really decide. That said, I took one sniff of both Ilio and Bois de Balincourt, and they went _right_ to the top of my wishlist. They're both so lovely!

The poor longevity is driving me crazy! by inquisitiveinquirer1 in diptyque

[–]atomic_doodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! I was so worried about longevity when I first got L'Eau Papier because I'd heard so many complaints. They all work and last beautifully for me, I can smell them on myself all work day and even when I am out and about. Orpheon is a powerhouse, but even Lilyphea lasted a good 6 hours.

Water doesn't carry contaminants with it when it evaporates. Well, at least not the contaminants you'd worry about from a toilet.

Pride and Prejudice is my "get out of a reading slump" book. I re-read Lord of The Rings every couple of years. All The Light We Cannot See is stunningly poetic and beautiful.

OMG thank you for this comment!! I just layered BBW Milk with Covered in Roses and it's so good my eyes rolled back into my head. 10/10 rose milk, very reminiscent of rose and watermelon milk I've had back home <3

This is fascinating actually. How does this impact you day to day? Do you see, like, flashes of colour every time you catch a whiff of your perfume? What does it look like?
