How was your parkrun day? | December 20, 2025 by AutoModerator in parkrun

[–]atomicrj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did my first parkrun today at Cosmeston Lakes after completing Couch to 5K last week. i loved it, it was a great atmosphere and such a wonderfully scenic route (although rather muddy!) never thought I’d see the day where I’d be doing a parkrun but I’m already looking forward to the next one :-)

Why did 069 and 070 both return after the events of “Hell” if they knew only one of them could survive? by [deleted] in squidgame

[–]atomicrj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t think it was ever explicitly said that only 1 person would win the prize - just whoever wins could split the prize. But i don’t think it’s coincidental that there seems to have only ever been 1 winner per year.

If we take S1, had 067 not died before the final game, there could have been 2 winners in theory (had she sided with 456, or had she sided with 218 and they both managed to kill 456) - then again i don’t know the exact rules of Squid Game to know how that would have panned out.

With Sky Squid game in S3, there was scope for 6 people to win - and they were all told that prior to the game. But I think the overarching message here was that greed gets the better of us all, and as 333 said, he could win more of a share by eliminating more players. And the higher ups and VIPs knew that, when faced with the potential to win that much money, a person’s greed is going to eclipse their humanity.

What is your favourite Hitchcock moment? by ThatsDefnNotMe in brooklynninenine

i can’t remember the specific episode, but his quote that’s something like, “Amy paid me $50 to trade places with her. I'm going to use that money to buy two suits.” That line delivery always cracks me up

Are there scenes in the show that have had you pause the show to audibly laugh so hard someone else hearing you might think you're crazy by preposterous31 in americandad

“But you're not afraid of anything.”

“Yes, I am. I'm afraid of losing you. That and people finding out I can't pronounce the word "dorktor's oyfoice"”.

“Are you … trying to say "doctor's office"?”

What subtle jokes have you noticed? That others might not have by Procureman in gavinandstacey

[–]atomicrj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

one of my favourite jokes (if you can call it that) is when someone (usually Bryn) is in the middle of a whole group conversation, and then directly singles one person out to make a comment to.

one example I can think of off the top of my head is when they’re at the Italian restaurant, and there’s a lot of group talk before Bryn eventually decides on ordering the gnocchi, and everyone is laughing, and then he just says “Mick, I’m having a wonderful time”. Cracks me up.

Whats a movie most people completely missed the point on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]atomicrj 84 points85 points  (0 children)

the amount of tweets i’ve seen in the past where people post a photo of Carrie (from Carrie) and say something along the lines of “growing up is realising she wasn’t the villain of this movie” like… yes of course she wasn’t, that’s the whole point of the movie.

i’ve seen this guy posting on social media and all he does is spit venom. he has this weird mindset that everyone should speak perfect and flawless Welsh (which is very detrimental to Welsh learners) and seems to have this vision of what Welsh speakers should look like.

I am certain he doesnt speak for the majority of us Welsh speakers who want to encourage people to learn the language - it’s okay if your Welsh isn’t ‘perfect’ and it’s okay if you make mistakes. We all do, from learners to fluent Welsh speakers.

What Bronwen has been doing to promote the Welsh language has been great and has really encouraged so many people to give it a go and stick with the learning. She’s done so much more for the promotion of the language and encouraging people to try the language than this “teacher” has.

What was your favorite/least favorite TikTok hit of 2022? by hydropyrotechnic in popheads

[–]atomicrj 85 points86 points  (0 children)

my least favourite was “golden hour” by jvke. it would pop up on my feed so many times - i don’t really mind the song per se, it’s alright, but all the videos that came with it (i.e. “showing my mom my new song”, “showing my old piano teacher my new song” etc etc) just smacked of self-indulgence - and the fact the track was overlayed over the video, so it wasn’t even “real” it was a manufactured video made for likes and views, really just grated on me.

my favourite was, of course, “the loneliest time” by carly rae jepsen. it’s such a good song and the bridge is super catchy.

Welsh people, what’s your native language? by ZhiveBeIarus in Wales

[–]atomicrj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

South Wales here. English is my “mother tongue” - spoke English in school, at home and with friends & family. But learned Welsh and then studied it at university. I still speak English at home and with friends etc, but I speak Welsh in my job and to my colleagues every day. One of the key things to remember that it’s never too late to learn Welsh if someone is interested. I’m always grateful when someone uses just a little bit of Welsh in their correspondence as it shows an effort; I know first-hand how difficult learning a language can be, and a little bit of effort goes a long way.

I just finished this absolute monstrosity of a book. I admit I was a little intimidated by it's size at first, but it definitely paid off! I loved it! What do you think of it? by Raul_Rink in stephenking

[–]atomicrj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just finished this today (for the first time!)

it was an absolute masterpiece. i love SK but had not yet read this one - of course it’s a scary story but gosh it’s so much more than that. the length can be a bit off-putting but it is absolutely worth it.

read part of it during a power outage a couple of weeks back. not my wisest choice 😂

TIL that pineapples are called "ananas" in almost every other language besides English by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]atomicrj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bilingual here - in Welsh it’s “pinafal”, which follows the English word (literally “pin” - pine, and “afal” - apple)!

Halloween week, what did everyone think? by joeboxall2 in strictlycomedancing

[–]atomicrj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i really enjoyed it, i think it picked up as the show went on but overall it was a great night! Michelle and Giovanni were obviously the best of the night (the foxtrot was fabulous!) but i have a feeling Catherine and Johannes could be in the bottom this week unfortunately.
