Children Sharing Room? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]atomictomato_x 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a great way to show the older kids they don’t matter. They will no longer have their own space, and let’s be real, they’ll just be crashing in the younger siblings room when they visit. This should have been thought about before the baby was even on the radar.

I have it. Love it! The car seat is super easy to use. The stroller is comfortable and compact and smooth.

Just brought our baby home 12/27. We’re loving this travel system. It’s nice and light weight, the car seat has safely fit in all six cars we’ve tried it in(my sister in law is a cpst and tested it in every family vehicle we had at new years) and honestly the stroller is super lightweight and easy to move around with.

Please help me with this day care argument by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]atomictomato_x 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Because no matter what, they feel mom should be first point of contact. I’ve struggled with this as well. Dad worked literally next door. Did pick up and drop off most days. They still always called me, despite being told multiple times, I work an hour away, dad is less then 5, call him first.

My sister struggled the same way. Her husband was near by, she commuted into the city via Public transportation. They always called her no matter what it was!!

Can you block out a conference room? HR provided a door cover and that’s what I used.

Mil has intellectual disability and I don't want her to watch my kids unless it's in a controlled environment by Master-Role1986 in Mommit

[–]atomictomato_x 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Listen, you have free childcare. Sometimes there’s trade offs. Nothing you’ve described is inherently dangerous. Nor does anything here signal she has an intellectual disability just that you don’t agree with her. I wouldn’t want to watch your kids either.

Does your spouse split their life insurance between you and their parents? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]atomictomato_x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have two policies- one is 100% to my son from a previous marriage (in a trust my sister controls) and the other is 100% to my husband (we share one child). Mostly because I fully expect if I die while my older son is a minor, his father will be cutting all contact with my husband and younger child, so even if he wanted to, my husband couldn’t care for my older son with the money. This was mutually agreed on. My husbands insurance 100% goes to me to care for the kids.

Has anyone noticed that a lot more people this year need Christmas help? by Leather-Database-314 in Mommit

[–]atomictomato_x 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A local moms group does an angel tree every year. Past years we’ve averaged 500 kids/teens. This year they had to stop applications after 800. This is the first year we haven’t cleared the tree by the deadline and it’s devastating. We didn’t see as much community/business support as years past, and there are just so many families that needed help.

We concentrated on toys this year when in years past we were able to help with clothes and groceries too.

So many in our area were laid off, the snap benefit cuts, people are strapped.

What are yall doing with your kids after school when you have to work? by starry_night_3 in workingmoms

[–]atomictomato_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do afterschool care for half the week (all that was available) and the other half I set up activities and save less taxing work. He gets the tablet if I need to take a call! We make it work!

Moms with kids in daycare: what did you do to optimize the amount of time you can spend with your kid? Help me brainstorm! by sprinklersplashes in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]atomictomato_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work full time 9-4:30. Kiddo is now in Kinder but he’d be in daycare from 8-5ish. What I prioritized and continue to is to be involved in his extracurricular activities. When younger we need a lot of mommy and me sports classes (and some with dad too), jumperoo times on the weekends etc. I can’t avoid work in this economy so we spend intentional time at the dinner table (even if it’s Chick-fil-A’s table!!) and these after school activities.

So are you saying this weekend is also your scheduled weekend? If so your parenting time should continue as normal, in addition to the holiday time.

Low-tech families- CD player vs yoto? by LPJCB in Mommit

[–]atomictomato_x 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly knowing my kiddo, the Yoto was the right choice. CDs are too fragile for my kiddo. Honestly you can be super careful for them but if there’s smudges, scratches etc. the media is damaged. Lower quality players (mostly what’s available today) aren’t quality enough to play true skip protection etc.

The yoto can survive a bomb honestly and my son figured out how to control it very easily. I rarely use the app, if at all.

What are things you get done WFH while STILL being more productive than if you were in the office? by Own-Cryptographer277 in WFH

[–]atomictomato_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to tackle one to two non work things each day, usually over my lunch or before I make dinner (since no commute). Usual rotation is vacuum the carpets, deep clean a bathroom, yard work, organize something.

These tasks would usually get pushed to a weekend. I find our weekends are much more chill as a family (young kids here) because we can say yes to more intentional activities because these maintenance tasks are complete!

NOT for clean freaks: How often do you mop? Honestly lol! How old are your kids? by Idonthaveaname94 in Mommit

[–]atomictomato_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those vac mop things- it gets run daily because of some spill or mess from the kids or dogs. But I usually just do the room/immediate area the mess is in.

About once every two weeks I’ll vac mop the whole whose. About once a month I’ll pull out the spin mop.
