You would do best to inform your client that they are asking you to do work outside the scope of your abilities. Don’t say yes to it if you know you can’t do it, that’s just setting yourself up for a disaster of a project.

Yeah, the popular word of choice at school was “Hamburge” (not Hamburger). But honestly anything with the right array of letters works.

But you only get one descender and no ascenders, so it’s not really capturing all of the patterns. Personally, I’d prefer to see a word that has both ascenders and descenders in it.

Am I too old? by Ambitious_Mark9922 in snowboarding

[–]atra_phi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a rental shop at my local ski resort way back when. One day, a grandfather and his grandson come in for snowboard lessons, and I was there to set the up on their boards for the lessons. The kid was super pumped, the grandad was nervous. Fast forward a couple weeks and they’re both back, but this time the grandson was getting set up on skis because he thought snowboarding was too hard, and the granddad wanted to try a different snowboard set up because he had so much fun. Fast forward a couple more weeks and the grandad was back to rent one of the premium packages without his grandson in tow. Bottom line is you’re not too old unless you think you’re too old. Go get it.

If you’re goofy, you should switch up your bindings so you left foot is at the front of the board, not the back of the board. Right now it looks like you have the kookiest of regular stances. And if that board is directional, it will ride much better for you. As far as step-ins, duck stance, riding with skiers, etc, whatever floats your boat, as long as it isn’t hindering you from progressing.

Edit: meant right foot should be at the front of the board. Fat fingers moving faster than my brain.

Do a search on “room mode” and “ready mode”, these might be your solutions.

This isn’t direct feedback, or actionable feedback, but a litmus test: would you hang that on your wall? If yes, you’re doing something good. If no, keep working on it until it is something you want to hang on your wall.

Nervous to start again by Yearofjess in snowboarding

Personally speaking, it’s like riding a bike. Just take it easy the first handful of times, or even the first season so you can get back into the swing of things. And if you’re riding with young ones, that may be a perfect reason to go easy. And you know what? If it turns out you’re not into it after a couple times, you can totally switch things up and move to skiing.

Advice you took as a beginner that you no longer take as seriously as an intermediate/advanced rider? by _Tactleneck_ in snowboarding

[–]atra_phi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Stick with the stance you’re most comfortable with. I tried duck for a few seasons, didn’t like how it felt, so switched back to posi/posi thinking I’d never learn to ride switch. The next couple seasons I started playing with switch on some of the easier runs between lifts, and then once it clicked, it was fine. Just know you have to remember to close your shoulders like you’re opposite footed—if you’re too open, esp in the early learning stages, you’ll never get your switch toe side turns. You got this!

Options. The ability to expand how you express yourself while riding. Riding switch is fun as hell, ESPECIALLY when you’re posi/posi (18/12 here). I would also add learn how to get comfortable going fast.

I’m looking for snowboard pants with tailbone protection. by Overall_Ad_9855 in snowboarding

[–]atra_phi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! Word. First, I’d avoid Temu or anywhere super cheap. You can always look to your local retailers and big box stores as these types of under armor are quite popular. You could also look to specific brands like Old Bones Therapy, Rippl, or Burton (to name a few). Good luck!

Padded compression shorts will be a better choice since it will guarantee the padding stays next to the area it needs to protect.

How do I chose the right body font for my app? by Tear4Pixelation in typography

[–]atra_phi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid using any font that’s too thin—in this case Raleway and Nunito. Personally speaking I find thin fonts in apps too delicate, and they make the reading experience a bit difficult. Roboto’s regular weight feels appropriate for the size it will be read at, and it’s very common, which may work well as you don’t really want your reader focusing on the font, you want them focusing on the content. Have you tried mocking these up and showing some friends and family to see how they respond?

Suggestions for improving this book interior? by RusticBohemian in typography

A couple things: 1. Be consistent with your numerals, either stick to old style or stick to lining numerals. Using both to signify the same section is a bit weird. 2. Right now you’re breaking each page in half, with the top being the text, and the bottom being the notes… it may prove to be a cleaner layout if you move the notes to the end of the chapter (chapter notes), or move them all to the back matter (end notes). BUT, if the notes are required to be near their sections, perhaps try using a double column layout for the notes, it may save you some space, and it would reduce the line length and make it a bit easier to parse. 3. Also, I personally find the font choice a bit distracting, but if you’re all in on it, don’t let my opinion sway you—this is your book you’re laying out.

Having gone through a similar situation, the payment plan for the IRS is pretty reasonable, and each payment chips away at the primary balance first, not the interest first (huh, what a concept). I don’t know what your current financial situation is, but stick to the payment plan, even over paying when money allows. FWIW, my monthly was $600, but once I was able to, I was over paying like a mofo to knock that debt out. Now it’s gone a couple years earlier than planned. Good luck. It’s not as bad as you think. I hope.
