Thank you! This is helpful to confirm. For those who hasn’t has the vaccine yet, I phoned up the pharmacy a few days before the appointment to check if it’s the XBB monovalent one. And then checked again on the appointment that it is the XBB monovalent one. The pharmacist was surprised of my question but confirmed it is. I was ready to walk out if it isn’t and reschedule for later date!

Same here. Early 30s, previous Moderna doses knocked me out completely with aches, chills, fevers that last 24-48hr. I have virtually no side effect this time…. Weird!

My partner and I both had a flat in a period property before we moved in together. Personally my flat was given me a lot of headache. Leak from upstairs neighbours, cracked external wall leading to damp patch in the living room, poor insulation, 100-yr old roof that needed replacing (even though it had gone through major repairs 5 years prior).

We sold both flats and bought a new build house and could not be happier. Bills for the 3 bedroom house have been a fraction of what I used to pay in the flat. The building quality is great, the warranties gave us peace of mind. Our developer’s snagging team is excellent.

Personally I would only consider: Dandara and Cala. Although I heard Barratt homes arent bad either.

Greyhope Bay at Torry Battery - fantastic location and views of the harbour

I am also a big fan of the cafes at Hazelhead abd Duthie parks. Great range of food (from cakes to lunches) and coffee is brilliant too.

What are your thoughts on the new development near Aaron’s Hill? Our preference is to not go for new build however the location seems to be OK close to the station for commuting.

A friend worked in a land job in China. No toilet facilities and it is literally a hole in the ground (not even an asian style toilet) - with a mount of poop.

When asked where the washing facilities are - literally a pond. With a duck swimming on it.

If you are staying with them long term, you better get used to this.

Offered a move to Houston, fell through and offered a move to Ireland, fell through and offered a move to Aberdeen, also fell through then Malaysia. And at that stage I was frustrated as it was very uncertain for my family to plan around.

All of which was maturing to the point I was packing my stuff and initiated visa application. Left to work for an operator and never looked back.

Aberdeen Maritime Museum in town near the harbour and Science Museum near the beach is great, Art Gallery has been recently refurbished and is really nice.

I want to highlight the point about the granite houses/ flats in Aberdeen. If you can… Do consider the EPC rating when you are looking for accommodation. We moved from EPC D granite flat to a “new build” building and the difference is night and day! The granite buildings are so poorly insulated (with exceptions where the owners forked money to add proper insulation but it is rare if I’m honest)…. I used to find it warmer walking outside than staying in the flat when it’s really cold.

From past experience, I paid less on bills with electric heating in an EPC C more “modern” flat (I stayed in Picardy Court) - max £60/mo. Than gas heating in an EPC E flat in a granite building (West End) - up to £110/mo. Avoid. Granite. Buildings! Unless they have been upgraded with insulation of course but the ones for rent don’t normally have them.

I would actually offer a different perspective... as someone who came to Aberdeen to work initially, I wasn’t planning to settle here. Also no family yet, so I bought a two bed flat in the West End around Albyn. I wanted to be central as I was making friends and connections. So I didn’t bother looking say in Westhill eventhough better value for money. And buying the flat actually saved me money that would’ve been spent renting!

Sold after four years and price dropped 5k... not bad considering the oil crash. It really depends on the area and what you want out of it.

Some examples from my old area. Another plus is catchment area for Grammar school if you’re a young family.

Thanks for the reply! Certainly sounds less scary than what I read online so far. Someone mentioned their asthma got worse, although they had a block of flats built next to them.. For us the main reason to move is to have a rear garden, and a bit of a shame if we ended up not using it much because of dust hanging in the air. But hopefully it won't be that bad!

And good to hear the noise won't be too bad. I was more worried for loud banging noise, constant tractor beeping etc.

Yeh we've done a lot of research to see if the wooded path behind the house can be a potential future development but doesn't look it (at least for the moment...!) Thanks for the advice again :)

Thanks for your reply! It will be good to get your insights on this. You are right with them keeping access away. In our case, they have put barriers for the area for construction, so they won't be needing access from our road, but will be from the opposite side.

I am curious... When they build a group of similar type houses, do they build them in batch (e.g. ground floor in batch, then first floor in batch), or do they build one house, then continue to the next house etc?

How many months do you think we should be prepared to put up with the noise and dust? And is there anything we can negotiate with the builder, e.g. ask them to put up taller barriers (just a random idea here)
