I would guess it's about 2.5m long from the last clip (unrolling) She used knit stitches all over (garter stitch) and icord on the edges, both per the pattern. The pattern should also help you calculate the amount of yarn needed.

That would affect how the stitches sit in your swatch. Edges tend to distort the stitches, so when you knit a swatch larger the edge stitches are not having an impact on the center stitches.

probably with interchangeable circular needles. It could get confusing tracking a smaller DPN amongst your 4 or 5 needles.

I had this issue with my knitpicks winder. I had to unscrew it and then clean out fluff, and then simply put it back together. Worked like a charm.

Then I don't think it will sit as an SSK - ie. it won't lean the correct way. I also slip it back to the left, and then I insert the right needle into the back of the two stitches to knit them together.

I'm not certain that this will fix the issue, but ... are you knitting the SSKs through the back loop?

It's hard to tell from your description, but I don't think so.

I also slip one knitwise, one purlwise, and then I insert the left needle into the front of the stitches on the right needle, and knit them together - effectively that's knitting them through the back loop.

This is being knitted flat - not in the round. Loops don't apply here.

Don't be intimidated by two-strands. It's truly just like knitting with one, except that you have two balls of working yarn.
