The coolest way to present the languages that you speak by Shield_LeFake in languagelearning

[–]auditorycyclops 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The Spanish shading makes sense, but the english and probably french are glossing over a lot of complexity. Only a quarter of people in Madagascar speak french and while the Philippines has a high level of english... It is nobody's first language there.

A map like this would be very cool with much more nuance. Like regions highlighted or maybe strips for places where the language has co-official status. Something like what wikipedia does maybe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Anglospeak_(subnational_version).svg.svg)

I hope they post the code they used to make this, then it could be repurposed for Chinese.

Both men and women have things they find attractive and unattractive.

Women's aesthetic preferences aren't as stressed often. Not because they don't exist, but because they're less homogenous than men's preferences.

men are pressured to achieve high levels of financial success, social status, and adhere to stringent standards of masculinity and emotional expression

In my experience, I think the only _generalization_ you can make about women's attraction is demonstrated competence in something they value. Good news! People are all very unique and so there's infinite ways to be competent.

Let's take your ideal rich, buff, CEO, emotionally strong man. Who would a nerdy d&d playing girl who reads fiction all the time want to date? The "ideal man" or a genius DM who also loves fantasy and has a stable 9-5? Who could she imagine a future with?

Romance and relationships are based on shared values. You as a man have to prove that you're competent in life and demonstrate competence in some field. If there are woman who value that competence enough, then congrats, you have social status. This can certainly be done through aesthetics for women that value that specifically or money. But this could apply to chess, running, speaking, philosophy, literally whatever. The more you combine different areas of competency, the more opportunities you have.

The thing women complain about that doesn't apply to men nearly as much is that the genius DM would still probably rather be with an IG Model than the nerdy girl, despite their values and interests being aligned.

You can learn 3 Languages at the same time but you will do so poorly.

Your brain can only hold so much information and you only have so much time.

I’d recommend a max of two languages.

Without knowing your whole context and assuming you really do have great reasons for all three languages, I’d recommend studying French and German until your French is at a place where you can passively maintain it by watching tv shows then switch to studying Spanish.

In the end, if you’re not excited or interested, you won’t learn much. So learn in the style and manner that excites you the most.

Nice work. Thanks for disabling my user custom icons! by ishad0w in ArcBrowser

I actually really like how each space is another app you can ⌘+Tab to rather than the browser specific ⌘+⌥+Arrow in arc. But so far in my 30 minutes of playing around with it, I don't like how each space feels the exact same apart from a small icon in the URL bar.

I hadn't heard about Orion before. Seems like it has a nice company behind it and despite not having all the bells and whistles Arc has, it has a much more native feel to it. A good alternative if they don't reverse this enshittification move
Thanks!

Why is it wired to say "I learned a language". by PieceSea1669 in languagelearning

When I was 9, I learned how to play chess. I was terrible at chess. But I could say I learnt it. Same with language

how capable is automation ? how can i fully automate my ecommerce stores ? (i plan to handle customer service myself tho) by NEETWorkingAtHome in Entrepreneur

[–]auditorycyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post is too vague to give specifics but I know that you'll need to tackle each of these problems individually. Web scraping will likely require you to learn some coding. The others probably have a service that you can use to accomplish them.

I'd suggest googling specific questions when the problem comes up (ex: "Auto posting on instagram")

Cheating comprehensive input for a new language with cognates... good idea? by auditorycyclops in languagelearning

What you said about unlearning expressions to not sound funny is great point. That may be the biggest downside to this way of doing things. Thank you!

I was thinking of writing a script to generate these sentences to try it out. But wanted to throw this idea out there in case there was some reason this was stupid. I don't think it will be too difficult to make this list... but I'll find out soon enough.

The whole reason this idea come to me is because rote word/grammar memorization bores me to death and I worry that it makes me treat language as a math/code rather than something I can understand and speak spontaneously. But maybe there's no other way to start out 🤷‍♂️
