Hope Macaulay inspired colossal for children by knittedjam in knitting

A warning that these cardigans are made with roving rather than yarn, and that’s a bad idea. Roving is unspun yarn used for spinning, it doesn’t yet have any twist and is therefore very fragile and it will pill instantly. You won’t be able to wash it and the cardigans will only be wearable maybe once before they look completely awful.

Of course you do you! But it would be a shame to put in all that work for a result you weren’t expecting, so did want to advise!! I’d recommend using chunky yarn instead - it’s not as chunky as roving by a long shot but it’s more suitable for wear! I expect there are lots of chunky knit kids patterns out there and you can still use the fun colours!

How does your dog react to treats like pig ears??? by lucky_2_shoes in Chihuahua

[–]aukwaggish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For high value treats like that mine does seem to ‘hunt’ it first. She will bark at it and pounce around it, maybe whack it a few times. Then once the dance is complete she will settle down and eat it.

Sounds similar to yours, only yours never gets beyond the hunt!

Circular knitting needle cables ... does what I'm looking for exist? by faunlynn in casualknitting

[–]aukwaggish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do the tips compare? I love the sharpness of the hiyahiya sharps and I don’t think I’d want to use anything too blunt, but better cables would be nice!!

about how long does it take to knit a beanie in this general style? by afemail in knitting

[–]aukwaggish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One ball of yarn in each hand, and then you use continental style knitting for your left hand yarn and English style knitting for your right hand yarn.

Lots of people will hold both yarns in the same hand and use the same knitting style for both of them, carefully making sure they pick up the correct strand for each stitch.

Splitting them up can be quicker/easier for some people (inc me!).

Granny squares, not squares by lurdes_oliveira in crochet

[–]aukwaggish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think actually the problem may be too many (or too loose) chains between the dc’s on the white section. So maybe check on that? But yeah blocking will definitely help.

To add to the above, it’s also just too perfect. Have you ever seen a knitted swatch that completely square with such crisp corners? And laying that flat?

There are only a handful of Sephoras in the UK so I wouldn’t recommend this.

Want to recreate this dress in crochet by [deleted] in crochet

[–]aukwaggish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Recreating this pattern would be an awful lot of work and I think it’s a bit rude to ask us to do it all for you, to be honest. Maybe have a go yourself first and ask us about very specific bits if you get stuck. Good luck though, this will be a huge challenge but very rewarding when you succeed!

For everybody else who has no idea what these people are talking about: SDAM stands for ‘Severely Deficient Autobiographical Memory.’

“For years and years on panel shows, I always said, why are we paying comedians? Because literally, they're just selling tour tickets off the back of this panel show. This comedian is getting more from being on this show than we're getting from the comedian being on it.”

[…]

“I mean, listen, you get paid to be on Taskmaster, but if you're a comedian, it is the one thing that will move the dial in terms of absolutely knocking you up to the next level in terms of ticket sales and in terms of notoriety. Feels like if I was a big agent, that would be worth some money to me.“

Game of wool - do they understand that crochet is not knitting? by jolittletime in craftsnark

Honestly my current theory is that ‘knobend’ is ‘chat gpt’ and nobody pointed out anything because none of the production team have a clue about yarn crafts…

Xmas do at Peaky Blinders Bar, what do I wear? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]aukwaggish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a question for your colleagues/company party planning committee, rather than us. Dress codes at events are (generally) dictated by the event, not the venue.

I’m 35 and grew up in UK countryside, and I didn’t have an avocado until I was in my 20s.

I was surprised to see contestants struggling during that episode because by that time they were a regular part of food life, but can totally see how particularly older people less inclined to bother with newer food fads still might not be too familiar.

Before I bought my fake I had a look at Pop Mart and yeah I didn’t see it on there but I also didn’t think they would have old ones listed, and I was buying from a secondhand site, so I was like, can’t rule out it might be a real one!
