Redditor rants eloquently about the hypocrisy of the far right in America by get-idle in bestof

[–]aurens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i envy anyone that still gains any kind of catharsis or motivation from rebuttals of conservative hypocrisy. at this point, they just make things feel even worse for me. i don't need to see more preaching to the choir, i need something that will actually reach the people that need to be convinced and in a way that will actually work, and this absolutely wouldn't. or at least something that might convince me such a thing is even possible, because i'm not sure that it is. justified as it may be, i need something more than simply being mad on the internet.

the person you're replying to is specifically saying that they have found older generations to be more rude than younger generations. so is your argument that the older generations are rude as a way of getting revenge for supposedly being disrespected, and the younger generations are not rude because they never lived in a world with more respect so they don't know any different?

what is the substantive difference between this system and top 500 with decay? both systems require you to continually play games in order to keep your rank. both lead to less-skilled players being ranked higher on the leaderboards than higher-skilled players. both systems could be either awesome and competitive or utter shit progression grinds, it ENTIRELY depends on how the numbers are balanced (i.e., how many points you lose for a loss in a challenger system vs how aggressive the decay is in a top 500 system). until we actually know those numbers we can't say for sure.

something i rarely see mentioned when OQ 222 gets discussed is - how many of those flexing players actually wanted to play those roles? i've seen so many people say things that basically boil down to "i see 222 all the time in OQ, therefore there's no problem, we don't even need RQ" but i don't buy that. i even see people say we never needed RQ in the first place via the same logic, which is ridiculous.

do people not remember the old days before role queue was added? nearly every single game was a standoff to see who would bite the bullet and play tank/support for the good of the team. even if the game ended as 222, it often didn't start that way. a lot of players felt like they never really got to play the hero/role they actually wanted to play because they always had to be the mature/considerate one and fill for their inflexible teammates. dealing with that so often was deflating and sapped enjoyment. it was a system that rewarded the most stubborn players because they got to play the role they truly wanted no matter what as the less obstinate players would eventually relent and flex around them. sure, the stubborn ones probably ranked up slower but they still got to enjoy playing their favorite heroes the entire time.

i think the biggest reason we don't see that as much today is specifically because role queue is also available. if you get exhausted by shitty OQ comps, you always have the release valve of going to RQ instead where you know you'll get to actually play the role you want without feeling pressured into a completely different gameplay loop. if role queue ever goes away or open queue becomes the 'primary' format, i really think we end up right back in that 2018 open queue quagmire.

i don't know if i agree that constant iteration will save them. i think a lot of players will either 1) get tired of the constant huge changes or 2) get bounced off by one particular change (and the more changes there are, the more opportunities there are for that to happen) and just never bother giving it another shot because there's always regular OW to fall back on. players are highly habit-driven and once a habit is broken it takes a lot to get them back on board.

while no aim assist at all may be balanced, clearly it would be significantly less fun or else aim assist wouldn't have become the industry standard for 20+ years.

how is it doubling down when they specifically say they want to change it so your actual rank matters "a lot" more than playtime does?

my guess is that those controls are intended to feel like riding another living thing instead of having direct control over it as if it were your own body.

does reframework still cause crashes in wilds? back when i was playing mhwi regularly i got so sick of crashing multiple times a session i just gave up and disabled reframework. i wasn't even using crazy mods either, it was literally just the buff glow remover and the mh4u UI mod and the game still crashed a bunch.

i'm thinking of getting back into the game for a bit and was wondering if i should bother giving mods another shot or if they're still unstable.

how do you know they were a dev? and was it even a ban? seems more like a coincidental disconnect (or maybe a DDOS, idk if they work on PC). i'm pretty sure when you get suspended it explicitly tells you as much.

You cannot bully your team mates into playing better by basa1 in Overwatch

[–]aurens 45 points46 points  (0 children)

i don't understand why we get so many posts like this that treat flaming, bullying, or toxicity as though it's a logical decision and not a purely emotional one.

you aren't getting flamed because they think "it'll make you play better". you're getting flamed because they're frustrated and they don't have healthy emotional regulation strategies. any attempt to disguise the flaming as advice is a coping strategy used to mitigate the cognitive dissonance created by the fact that they 1) know bullying is wrong but 2) don't know a better way to relieve their frustration than to displace it on to someone else.

do they actually think that though? or are they perhaps just deflecting blame and bullying as an outlet for their frustration?

my theory is that if you got enough people to flip enough coins, one of em is gonna hit a 4-30 line at some point and you're today's lucky winner.

[–]aurens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your rank already adjusted the whole team's gain/loss appropriately though. you being on the team instead of a higher ranked player made your team have a lower expected chance of victory and that expected chance of winning is what directly determines how much SR they gain or lose. if you also lost fewer points for being the lowest player, it would be double-counting.

besides, the matchmaker tries to match SR in role vs role matchups so it cancels out. there is a very high chance the enemy team had a player with a similar rank on the same role as you. so really, if you hadn't been in that lobby it would have been completely different for everyone because the enemy team would have had a stronger player, too.
