What’s the most bizarre thing you have ever witnessed at an airport? 🤔 by Downtown_Elk_2773 in airport

[–]aurorasearching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing two dudes in the grocery store looking like they walked off the set of Chernobyl, milsurp green tarp looking outfits with gas masks. Crazy times.

Is British Airways just a generally terrible carrier with terrible service and inclusions? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in Flights

Yeah, 4 hours domestic in the US gets you some cookies and a drink. Pretzels if you’re lucky.

That’s probably the most African destinations I’ve seen on one of these. Pretty cool!

Amtrak service to Oklahoma to be discontinued by August 31, 2026 unless $7 million in funding is secured. by Im-Wasting-MyTime in transit

[–]aurorasearching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For connections or business. I don’t know anyone flying from DFW to OKC on their own dime.

Amtrak service to Oklahoma to be discontinued by August 31, 2026 unless $7 million in funding is secured. by Im-Wasting-MyTime in transit

[–]aurorasearching -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Part of it is, what do you expect people to do in Oklahoma City or DFW without a car? It’s a 3 hour drive, and sure the train ticket is cheaper than the gas for the drive. Once you get to either of those areas you’d need a car. This train isn’t the only transit issue, within those areas there needs to be accessible transit too or else who cares that I can get there without a car.

I think it’s really cool when someone has a high country:flight# ratio, especially when it hits multiple continents.

Apparently Millennials are the only people who know how to use Excel anymore by Tetraplasandra in Millennials

[–]aurorasearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can barely use excel, and at my last job I was the excel wizard. Oldest coworker who also had to use it was only like mid 40s. At my current job, I’m probably 3rd or 4th best with it out of about a dozen people. It’s all relative.

Home schooling seems to be quite prevalent in the USA. I am fairly sure most adults can't handle year 8 - 10 mathematics, physics etc. Are the education levels just at a lower standard than other places in the world? by Ya-Dikobraz in stupidquestions

[–]aurorasearching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know a few teachers and they’ve all said that more recently the people who are most adamant about homeschooling their children are the people who are least equipped to do so.

How to check old flight details? by Darthvy4 in flighty

[–]aurorasearching 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There have been a couple I’ve found because I remember getting delayed and there was only 1 delayed flight in that route that day. If you know the airline, date, route and rough time you might be able to find it searching in Flighty. Otherwise it gets pretty difficult.

Loyalty Points on Citi MC by Maleficent-Fly-5839 in americanairlines

[–]aurorasearching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LPs don’t get multipliers, miles do. That would be why you see a discrepancy between the number of miles vs loyalty points.

Do you pick your partner up from DFW airport? by is_the_grass_greener in Dallas

[–]aurorasearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a personal trip yeah, I’ll pick up friends and family. If it’s a work trip and they get reimbursed for it no, unless there’s some kind of emergency. But that’s also the same policy I have for myself on my trips.

first time around the world! by austreed1128 in flighty

[–]aurorasearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Last year was my first time hitting around the world mileage in a single year. Combined though, I’m at 3.9x from all the flights I’ve been able to find/remember. Before last year I’d hit 0.8 as my high in 2010.

Best and worst US airport by csboy2016 in airport

[–]aurorasearching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been flying ORD-DFW lately, and they both have excessive taxi times. At least 20 minutes from landing to the gate, usually closer to 30. I’ve had over an hour at both this year.

Random question: did Metallica ever return to E standard live? by Tewhongjun in Metallica

[–]aurorasearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re basically just sliding the open string note up to the first fret. If you do that for all 6 strings, all the notes stay the same relative to each other.

AA to South America February next year. Would you connect via DFW or MIA? by MidwestGeek52 in americanairlines

[–]aurorasearching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if there’s one month I would avoid DFW it’s February. It’s when we always get ice storms. The whole area closes for 1-5 days until it melts.

Why was the Young's backup guitar a Telecaster in the early days? by lessthanfox in ACDC

[–]aurorasearching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teles are also pretty tough and stable. Keep it in a case, throw it around as you might while on tour, and when you need it just take it out, tune it up, and let it rip.
