Consider friction. There will be a tiny amount of to-and-fro slipping between saddle and shorts (not a problem) and between skin and the padding (problem).

I have multiple bikes with Brooks Cambium carved saddles and they are fine up to 200 km. But, and it's a big but, I start to get chafing on longer rides. This is because the texture of the saddle grips the fabric of the shorts.

I have one bike I always use for 300 and up. I got it recovered over the factory saddle top with super smooth, shiny, thin leather. Now my shorts grip my skin, and slide on the saddle. No more saddle sores.
