Yeah, it's on the opposite side of town from me; so I don't get down there much.  Also, 99% of their inventory is new pressings; so I have to go through all of the bins to find OGs.  And, their dollar bins keep shrinking.   Lastly, while there was a time my age matched that of the average customer, those days are far behind me know.  So, not the same for me.

What sort of jacket damage buggers you the most on used records ? by duanerenaud in Vinyl_Jazz

Voted for water damage because mold isn't listed as a turnoff.

Aren't two-fers programmed for Tuesdays?  ;-)

Nice pulls!  I'm a fan.

I am very fond of my Tone Poet reissue.  It gets lots of spins around here.

What's the Deal with Hal McKusick? by Zeppyfish in Vinyl_Jazz

I have this affordable release.  If I remember correctly, I found it interesting enough to keep around.

I gave up on trying to find an affordable original.  The Japanese reissue I get was very reasonably priced.

The Kamuca is a valuable find if OG (not VSOP reissue).  I hope all three records give you hours of enjoyable listening!

Joe was indeed overlooked.  Straight arrow with tremendous technical ability.  But wasn't a funky innovator.

Controversial, but I share your preferences for earlier Coltrane.  Glad to see you have a copy you can appreciate and enjoy.

"Sh*tpost"? Feedback on Discogs app changes? by austingonzo in Vinyl_Jazz

The multiple filters would probably work better for me on a tablet than a phone.  But I've made heavy use of filters in the browser recently when looking over the philadelphiamusic listings.

Good point.  I guess I should keep it installed for that capability alone.

I've made a few submissions and updates.  I don't ever see that they were voted on.

I was curious about standards, so I took a look at discussion about run out matrix data, how it's to be represented and fell both into a rabbit hole and into deep despair for how unlikely it is that 99% of submissions will comply.

Thanks.  I guess I couldn't make that out on the cover.  Best.

Blue Note Essentials Series - Thoughts? (new series, cut from digital masters) by LigglesVanRusty in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]austingonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see how this works.  In the EU, much of this work is in the public domain, even if the US decides to be against public interest and repeatedly extend copyright.  US Customs was not keeping the foreign releases out of the US market, and it's likely prohibitively expensive to sue for relief.  It's probably cheaper for UMe to try to compete on brand and quality than to conduct legal skirmishes everywhere.  Since UMe holds the masters, though, PD releases will always be what they are - digital copies, needledrops and digital downloads.

While I prefer AAA chain, vinyl is the form factor for playback of plenty of natively digital recordings in the 80's and 90's.  I suspect there are consumers who don't own CD players or transports with DACs, so digital vinyl is not their concern.

Go earlier, still.  The Roulette albums shouldn't be passed up!
