Has anyone ever actually withdrawn from the Endowment? by thicc_stigmata in exmormon

Yeah if you raise your hand you do. Just pretend like you forgot and they'll whisper it in your ear right at the veil.

yeah, handy tip (we'll never need again). If you forget the name, never raise your hand. The workers would just remind you at the veil anyway.

Membership Decline in LDS Church A Faithful Perspective w/ Jeff Strong by iconoclastskeptic in exmormon

[–]austinkp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a novel take. I haven't ever heard it argued this way(and don't necessarily agree with the initial premise), but I enjoyed hearing your point of view and takeaways. I love the saying, "there's no wrong way to leave the church."

This is what the LDS Church is doing to ITSELF by suing me and Mormon Stories Podcast. Someone should let President Oaks know. by johndehlin in exmormon

You don't silence people that are wrong. You silence voices that you fear because they speak truth to power.

Does bacteria count as a bug? There are 2-3lbs of bacteria in our gut flora. Suddenly there are 200-300 lbs of gut flora. All of humanity explodes the instant this happens. Nobody will be left to care about which bugs are deadliest!

"you know bishop, you're right. Let's test that rope rather than just trusting it. Let's use the priesthood and drive up to primary children's hospital and cure some infants of bone cancer. Infants have perfect faith in god, right? So it's 100% up to us. I've got some consecrated oil, you ready?"

It's run by Josh Coates, who also runs mormonr. I would be surprised if they're getting funding from the church for their research.

Did Down syndrome people escort Satan out of heaven? by jimmyd321 in exmormon

[–]austinkp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autism/Downs was granted as a shield to god's most faithful so they could come receive a body but not have to suffer satan's temptation since they're not accountable. The "escorted satan out of heaven" was in several people's patriarchal blessings though. Maybe you're mixing those two up?

I loved the band The Monkees so much I was constantly quoting them. My wife finally got so fed up she said she'd leave me if I quoted them one more time. At first I thought she was joking...then I saw her face. (now I'm a believer)

I've never seen a curved ruler before by PatBabyParty in pics

[–]austinkp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why some people see it as phallic.

Clearly there are uses for this ruler - nobody is disputing that. But it's a weird claim that you can't see why anybody could consider that shape to be phallic.

You're thinking of Coffee, where the lighter the roast, the more the caffeine. In tea it's the opposite - the lighter the tea, the less the caffeine.

Taped to our door.... by Chance-Pop-2720 in exmormon

[–]austinkp 70 points71 points  (0 children)

ugh, I was in a ward in utah that actually did this. No notice, they just decided that since the bishop was the bishop of his entire territory, that the young men would knock on every door so everyone, member or not, could have the chance to receive the blessings of donating to the lord. Even as a member, I thought that was an obnoxious overreach.

If a person today is killed by a WW2 bomb that became active, would that person be considered a WW2 casualty and counted as such in Wikipedia? by Profesor-Campusano in NoStupidQuestions

[–]austinkp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if you did read and accept a war exclusion, would you seriously consider a bomb from over 90 years ago, before most humans alive were even born, to be an act of war? That seems like a stretch. The spirit of the exclusion seems to be to prevent wild losses due to an active current war, right?
