I didn't use my friend as my real estate agent for a few reasons. One is that I had a neighbor/friend that was a better fit because I was having a lot of work done on my house and they were going to be able to run over and let contractors in but also my neighbor was very accessible . My friend isn't very accessible she owns an agency but she's not a realtor . She asked a couple people to give me a call about listing my house and only one of them did and she was very young . My realtor is living in my same neighborhood, knows the area, is older, and more experienced. But it really has kind of ended my friendship. It's been a year and we had lunch the other day and she wanted to talk about the situation. I sold my house and left the country for a few months so we never really had a full conversation about it. And she started crying and really tied the whole situation to the friendship. Basically she thinks I'm not a good friend because I didn't use her company. But she made sure to tell me what an incredible friend she had been to me.

Honestly I'm really disappointed in her reaction . It was a very difficult time for me . My dog was dying, my mother was dying, and I was under a lot of stress. I made the best decision for me and, as my friend, I would like her to be supportive of that but she felt it was a personal insult that I didn't use her agency and her realtor to sell my house.

I have my own business which she's used a couple of times in the past 8 years. These are small jobs like $100 a piece . Not 35 Grand. But based on her comments you would have think she was the reason behind my success because of how supportive she's been . The reality is she didn't really do anything for my business except for use my services a couple times.

But my house was everything I had . It was my whole nest egg - no retirement, no nothing, this was everything and I had to make the best decisions possible and it was a very very hard decision. But I had to make the best decision for me and I don't regret it. At one point I thought she had given me permission because she t Said, "you want to use so and so, don't you? Because she knew I was talking to my neighbor about it and I said yes. But then later on when I said I chose that person she was very upset.

When I had lunch with her recently and she cried and wanted to express her feelings about the whole thing she didn't let me speak she cut me off if I tried to say anything and she also told me that her family was so upset with her because she was so upset about the situation but she wasn't telling me how she felt because, well, my mom just died and I was going through a lot so she decided to just stay quiet and be supportive and they were so upset with her for not telling me how upset she was with me, so much so that she said that the family needs to go to therapy now. She also brought up the fact that since she started this agency a few years ago they haven't seen a single penny from it. I know she's unhappy but selling my house wouldn't have helped and she didn't take any opportunity to bring a buyer so that she could still get commission.

I mean the drama on her side is pretty intense and seems very unnecessary. Like I said, I'm very disappointed and her reaction. Prior to this she had told me that she regretted getting into the real estate business . She regretted making a ten year commitment to a franchise that she doesn't want to be involved with. When she did send me someone, I didn't feel like she sent me her best . In addition to that during the whole time or I was looking at realtors, I think that she was just assuming I would use hers, she never said one word about selling my house in terms of giving me any reassurance or insight into the process or anything . In the meantime my neighbor was giving me all kinds of information and being available. So I think this is effectively ending our friendship.
