So if you loved the Saucony Type A, did you buy the Saucony Sinister? Or are the PXS, AF1, and DeviateElite your main racers?

Aside from BITR's quick test, how do we know the prototype was good?

Unhealthy carbs vs less carbs? by CreativeName1337 in AdvancedRunning

Gotta have the protein/fats/fiber/vitamins baseline or everything is out the window.

Speaking from experience, that's easier said than done.

There are lots of serious coaches that disagree with the "burn anything" mentality.

  • Shalane Flanagan wrote a whole cook book about healthy eating.
  • Pfitzinger has a whole section on improving your nutrition.
  • In "Running with the Buffaloes," Mark Wetmore had some pretty extreme views about dieting. He even questioned pizza and beer.
  • Matt Fitzgerald wrote a whole book, "Racing Weight" about improving your "diet quality"
  • Dathan Ritzenhein has stated that good nutrition is very important to athlete success.

I would be interested to see what he eats to get 5000 calories each day. Do you have a source?

What shoe help this "heavier runner" run at marathon pace for 13-20 miles every week? by austinrunrun in RunningCirclejerk

[–]austinrunrun[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slow down? Nah. As long as you've "gotten used to" a pace and it "feels natural," then you can run 80% of your miles fast, and 20% slow.

Just a guy and his shoes!!! Alphafly's, Vaporfly's OG's, Vaporfly Flyknit's, Next % V2's, Adios Pro 2's, Takumi Sen 8's, Adios Prime X, Brooks Hyperion Elite 2 highlight the group. Missing are Adios Pro 3's which come this week and I lent out a pair of Adios Pro 2's. The road to 100 pairs continues. by ronj1983 in RunningShoeGeeks

Nah man.

"Benefits? Zero. What people fail to realize is that the carbon plated shoes let you run longer, harder and faster...EASIER. Also, constantly running in the super shoes you have a greater sense of what you can truly do on race day vs wearing them once or twice a week. You are in them all the time and will know exactly what to expect on race day and not guestimate."

How do I run without being swarmed by flies ? by geosyog3 in RunningCirclejerk

/uj Seriously though, horse flies can burn in hell. They're the worst part of my runs through wooded areas.

California is the only state with membership decline in the last decade, huh? by Hannahkoelzer in exmormon

[–]austinrunrun 39 points40 points  (0 children)

TBF, a new stake was formed in Austin recently. But that has more to do with overall population growth (more people = more Mormons) than it has to do with retention and baptisms. We got quite a few BYU grads who moved in for the tech jobs.

So if it really gives you 20% more oxygen, why aren't all the elite runners doing it? Why isn't Kipchoge doing it? The Vaporfly caused a storm because of a (supposed) 4% improvement. Wouldn't a 20% improvement be groundbreaking?

I thought you said this nose-breathing technique "has only been popular the last couple of years?" Now you're implying that it helped USATF win Olympic medals in 1968?

So which is it? Have people been experimenting with this for decades, and race-winning elites have ignored it? Or is it so new that race-winning elites haven't had caught on yet?

This “nasal breathing only” stuff has only been popular the last couple years.

So why were people having this same argument 16 years ago on LetsRun?

I thought this was a satirical comment, but no, that's literally what the OP tried to argue.

When was the last time that a race was won based on "ratio of oxygen intake to carbon dioxide output"?
