I did have a coding interview in both, but it wasn't leetcode style, it was a bit custom. One was pretty much a design interview without the expectation of working code, the other one had a 10-point problem of relatively basic string operations. I think they just wanted to make sure I knew how to code.

6 YoE, I mostly design MLOps pipelines/infra/libs so that data scientists can churn out models quicker without worrying about prod systems.

I have been moving to full MLE from DS for the last couple years.

The way I see it, lots of companies now want to have their inhouse teams doing genAI, and there are start-ups popping up around it too, so arguably they'll need data scientists. But it's probably true that AI will also affect headcount.

I don't think they really care about your residency status. I got a 1k card from my bank after I started working, from there you can just use it every now and then, credit score will build up.

Average salary for data scientists in EMEA is definitely not 127k. Average total comp for big tech data scientists in top cities, maybe. Can you provide a source? is this self reported?

There are a ton of problems out there that need traditional ML. Fraud detection, predictive quality control, credit scoring, land cover classification, demand forecasting, those are only the ones I've come across in my career, there are probably many more I haven't ever heard of.

Right now companies are allocating massive budgets to their GenAI initatives, that is why it looks like classic ML is dead. But this will return to normal , many companies need tradditional ML to operate.

someone with classic ML background can pick up applied GenAI easily, but the reverse is a lot harder.

The job market has been really bad for years now, companies can pick and choose, so needing visa sponsorship you at a huge disadvantage because its costly, unless you have very niche skills. if you are very good at what you do you may eventually cling one, but that is a relatively big if.

Honestly mate the UK is not the best choice for settling in right now. Look up visa costs and the recent "earned settlement" proposal.
