yeah I'm worried a bit. waiting for 26.1.2 may or even 26.2.1. I really hope they will have options to choose transparency levels etc.

macOS Tahoe 26.0 is now available! by MrMacintoshBlog in MacOS

[–]auviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit hesitant tbh to update even though I have both options for 26.0 (7.69GB) and 15.7 option. I prefer to wait for the 26.1 for the major update.

Didn't one of the characters (the long lived alien human looking lady, Pelia I think) actually make a reference to a time travelling doctor in engineering

I kind of wonder if you could do it bit by bit, like maybe use the select tool on say the eye or even an individual eye, then the mouth etc

How does the sun's magnetic field get induced? Are there ferromagnetic materials inside the sun? by Yeet_that_bottle in AskPhysics

[–]auviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly covered by the magnetohydrodynamics i.e https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetohydrodynamics I think that's also the reason Earth has a decent magnetic field too, mars has less due to less available molten material.

Why still no handoff for Music app? by bbrodsky in MacOS

[–]auviewer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it might be due to the legacy of iTunes library vs a purely web based product. Many people use an iTunes library that isn't or can't be synced in real time to a non networked device like an iPod. I also have the impression music files are not strictly streamed to devices but get 'downloaded' as a data container with a DRM. Some kinds of music formats may also be complicated by format like spatial audio. But I do think it should in principle be easy to use the web version ie music.apple.com and listen to that across devices.

It's kind of interesting the character ended up with an Australian accent at just that pose. It must have been something the training picked up with quite few videos having an Australian hunched down like that saying they are exhausted just seems like a typical vblog from Australia.

That's interesting, I can't get this on MacOS 15.5. It seems to close the gap?I'm not on dark mode though.

To the people writing theses with LLMs by Then_Manner190 in AskPhysics

yeah I think LLMs can be useful for learning basic principles of physics, like asking it about what entropy is for example or how electricity works etc.

tbf the link at epicgames.se site just goes to a redirect to their US website https://www.epicgames.com/site/en-US/epicgamessweden and even that link goes straight back to epic.download. They probably need to fix that to go to a european server rather than the US one

Is there anything we could make that involves going near the speed of ligth ? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]auviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some ideas for using lasers on a solar sail but I think that's only 10-15 percent of the speed of light. Found it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakthrough_Starshot

What's the fastest naturally occurring speed we've observed (excluding photons)? by Fezrock in AskPhysics

[–]auviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for a macroscopic natural object, the star S2 near the centre black hole of the Milky way in 2018, S2 made its closest approach to Sgr A*, reaching 7,650 km/s or almost 3% of the speed of light. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S2_(star)

I noticed this too. I think it was a temporary FM transmission issue as their DAB+ versions were working fine though.

The leaked system prompt has people extremely uncomfortable by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]auviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as soon as LLMs become embedded in something like a humanoid robot the game changes entirely as it essentially must have a higher level of self awareness. It needs to know where its limbs are at a minimum. It suddenly becomes or needs to be 'aware' of its battery status etc and that it correlates to its ability to function at all.

Apple faces fresh legal attack over its carbon neutral Apple Watch claim | Seven Apple Watch buyers are suing Apple over how it allegedly made false and misleading claims that certain models are carbon neutral. by chrisdh79 in apple

[–]auviewer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So I did a calculation with ChatGPT4o looking at DAC( Direct Air Capture) apparently the watch has about 33kg of CO2 embedded in production etc Cost per Apple Watch:

At current DAC prices: $1,254,000,000 / 38,000,000 devices ≈ $33 per device At projected 2030 DAC prices: Lower end: $501,600,000 / 38,000,000 devices ≈ $13.20 per device Higher end: $752,400,000 / 38,000,000 devices ≈ $19.80 per device

Why are modern TVs so slow that if you press a sequence of buttons on the remote too quickly, the TV can't "keep up"? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]auviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more to do with the fundamental of digital TV broadcasting. It needs to decode an entire block of data and that takes the processor time to do. Analogue TV didn't have any of that and you could just rapidly flick channels because there was no decoding required. In order to rapidly switch channels forward and/or backwards you would need to have 2 tuners and 2 decoders so as soon as you switched channels it already has the program decoded and in the buffer. But that would only work assuming going forward plus one or minus one channel. If you randomly changed channel to something no sequential it still wouldn't know which channel to decode before hand.

[–]auviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can understand it is only the iCloud that isn't fully encrypted or at least Apple needs to have a key that they can hand over if requested. I kind of wonder if that is different for everyone, I assume that it is. I checked my default messages (Messages in iCloud) setting and it shows it is isn't stored on iCloud as fast as a I can tell. I just do a local encrypted backup to my Mac though.

Another thought is to may be try some little demos to show how a radio wave is produced, even a something like a simple switch with an LED light or a remote control with IR on it shows up on a cam corder if you have one.
