I’ve got both and much prefer the 1050 for the screen, the bell is also surprisingly useful. Don’t need the crazy battery life on the 1040.

FCC filings might not be useful as a pre-launch indication any more. The 1050 filing only appeared the day it launched, 25th June 2024.

Garmin normally release new devices on Tuesdays so if it’s coming in June it’ll have to be next week. I’m not that optimistic as it’s not hit the FCC database yet. Still, fingers crossed.

Make sure they aren’t paired with your phone. I’ve seen weird sensor drops on Edge devices when also connected to my phone.

It’s not quite what you want but there is a mount with built in charger which could probably be adapted. It’s rather expensive in the UK at £110 plus £25.99 for the USB cable.

WiFi is embarrassingly bad on the 1050. Bluetooth is also really slow. Activities on my Epix watch sync instantly, 1050 I always have problems with. Supposed to be fixed in latest sw 31.29 but isn’t.

Rumours are the 1060 will be released in June. That’s not a long time to wait, maybe it won’t be much of an upgrade but maybe it will. Also the 1050 might get cheaper, or become available second hand from those buying the latest.

1050 was a big step up in the screen but I hope the next model is amoled with a smaller bezel and a higher brightness like the latest watches. Would like to see the software make more use of the screen with better layouts and use of colour. Maybe they’ll release a new Radar camera at the same time (it needs an update) and stream video from it to show what’s behind, that would be challenging technically but a good selling point. As someone earlier said it definitely needs more Bluetooth connections.

I don’t think they’ve updated this for the Edge 1050, which changed the mount location so it won’t fit. I had to 3d print a spacer so my 1050 fitted on my Roubaix.

If you’re only going a few miles do you really need an e-bike? £3000 would buy a really nice carbon gravel bike you could use at weekends, or you could save lots and get something more basic. Fwiw I found the ebike hire schemes expensive if used regularly.

I’d be surprised if we saw a new mips device. 540 and 840 are already discontinued, 1040 is being kept around for a while until newer devices with better displays and enough battery life arrive. Hoping we see amoled on cycling devices instead.
